OK, so I'm thinking I want a no-nonsense melee tank character. I want to run up to things, hit them over the head, and kill them.

Warrior, obviously, but what do you think would be the best secondary?

Read the other threads dealing with warriors, especially Warrior Basics. There is no right answer, and there's nothing more anyone can tell you that hasn't already been discussed.

If you really want to tank well, do W/mo, The self healing and protection ability that you gain through monk abilities is far superior (in my opinion) to necro leech, mesmer hex's, or elemental skills. On top of that, being so survivable, you will often find yourself outliving your party members, having ressurection or restore life available is a very nice thing to have.

You can also do absurd amounts of damage with smiting prayer skills (SoH, Judges Insight)

As a Warrior... I say your best defense is a good offense...

and of course... even better if u have both high end of defense and offense... but thats not GW

I would say... protection monk is the best tank no doubt...

A protection monk can shielding hands himself, but others can do that as well. In fact, most of the damage reduction stuff he can do from him monk secondary others can do for him. For this reason, I'd say that an ele would be better, given water/earth. While mesmer has physical resistance, this is a stance and can conflict easily with some desirable skills from Warrior.

My tank is going to be a W/E Water/Axe. Armor of Frost & Blurred vision should work out well or provide longevity against most physical damage.

The problem is that physical damage isn't that big of a deal to a warrior to begin with. Glint himself was only hitting me for around 150, and that was with a 71 defense armor set, so it would be even less now. Many level 28+ enemies only hit me physically less then 50 usually, so I'd say its not really worth worrying about. What Is worth worrying about are DoT and status effects, which monk helps greatly with. Note that I am talking about PVE only, PVP is a whole different monster.

The best TANK I've ever seen.......taking on mobs of level 29 creatures in the underworld and not even losing any health, completely unscared, was an Elementalist/Monk. It took him about 10 minutes to convince us he would tank.

I like combining live vicariously on myself with 100 blades. It helps out when tanking in a crowd
