to give us pvpers a little more variety. add a 'enter pvp mission' button right below the 'enter mission' button. change the instance so it allows a 2nd group to enter.
a message tells first group 'You are the first group to enter this instance',
when the 2nd group enters, they get a message 'another group is already here', and the first group gets a message 'another group has entered the mission'. a timer starts when the 2nd group enters the mission.
having them start at different times prevents the 'no group has challenged and reset timer stuff' also, since 1st group has to clear a lot of aggro, the 2nd group shouldn't have much trouble catching up if thats their strategy. also, depending on how far along the first group is the 2nd group could decide to simply position themselves near end of mission. opens up to lot more situational awareness and tactics.
The first group has the regular mission objective with a timer. If they complete it. anyone who hasn't completed gets the regular xp. everyone else gets 1k faction award. The 2nd group has to stop first group to get awarded 1k faction.
For those who care about the story line. Anet could have 2nd npc to tell their side and why the mission needs to be prevented. This would be pretty easy in the white mantle VS shining blade missions.
as always it would be totally optional. ppl who think that this is griefing or who just want to lvl would still have the no interference regular 'enter mission' option.

What I would like to see, though, is a PvP arena that's like the henge portal, with maybe 5 portals of which you have to align 4 to win, or somesuch.

actually, the beauty of suggestion is that it wouldn't take that much to implement. the longest and hardest parts of game development is the art and initial coding. what i am talking about is 2 changes to the code, one change to add a timer to whole mission which Anet already knows how to do and can probably do in a consistent fashion. the 2nd change is to allow a 2nd group to enter an instance. again something they can already do. ok i know its a cascading effect, then they would have to change reward system to include some more "if this then then this" type statements. and hmm some changes to the gui. well ok, so there is a bit of work.
the main advantage of my proposal is that it doesn't require any new artwork or graphics and only modifications to current missions instead of brand new missions. your suggestion is somewhat similar since it changes only that mission but you are also changing the mission goals and functions which i was kinda backing away from. and i agree it would be better if Anet just tried a pvp version of one mission that was best suited to that to see how well it works out. i think a lot of ppl would really enjoy it. /shrug i have been know to be wrong in the past.
