You know, I love good reviews. I love good reviews about good games. I love rooting for the underdog! AND I LOVE WHEN THE UNDERDOG WINS!!! Frikin' rejoice my friends! Guild Wars is here to stay! (I've known this for a while, but I was hoping the press would catch on; and they DID!)

I didnt really experience much hype for this game....all the MMORPG players called it crappy and Diablo with 3d graphics, but in my opinion there were definately wrong(mmorpg players).

I would also say that Guild Wars wasn't really an underdog from the get-go, it just wasn't as hyped as the recent MMORPG releases (WoW and EQII). In reality, Guild Wars is not an MMORPG, it is a different class of game. Comparing it to those two isn't quite apples to oranges, but it is like comparing a green apple to a candied apple. They are similar in many ways, but different in just as many.

Guild Wars is more like a cooperative online RPG, like Baldur's Gate or Diablo in multiplayer mode. The difference here is that this is persistent, and that the scale has been multiplied many times.

Anyway, Guild Wars is a great game, and it's a step in the right direction for online gaming. It isn't an underdog because it isn't directly competing with most other MMOGs (and, as I already explained in brief, it's not technically massively multiplayer).

Quick note: I still hold the opinion that there should be some open zones for both PvP and open zones for PvE that any player can enter (similar to city districts) and the population respawns. This would make the game more MMO than it currently is, and would help promote the sense of community.

i kind of wished it would score higher than wow. yes i know there isnt a comparison, and its only a numbers rating, but still. i would have liked to see the less anticipated game end up on top. o well i love gw.

The reason I said that Guild Wars, to me, was the underdog is that it really was never taken seriously. (At least in some MMORPG communities) And I'm just glad that it proved them wrong.

And as far as being an MMORPG(or not), to be honest, I don't think it really matters. Like one guy put it in another post, "Guild Wars: Massive?=Yes Multiplayer?=Yes Online?=Yes RPG?=Yes; Guild Wars=MMORPG". That the mechanics vary from game to game, obviously. But the similarities are more apparent that its differences, and hence should not be taken into consideration. The ONLY difference between GW and other MMORPGs is the lack of a monthly fee. Guild Wars is in EVERY aspect DIRECT and GOOD competition to other MMORPGs like WoW and EQII.

It is the next-generation Diablo II.

And how is that a bad thing?

I think alot of the "Diablo with 3d graphics" crap kind of comes from the near-elitist nature of those paying for an online rpg. They have to justify that 20 dollars a month somehow...

Now that's what I call a good review. In the video review, one could really tell that Greg had a lot of enhusiasm for this game and enjoyed reviewing it.
