I've worked my way through as an Ele/Mo up to Droknars. Now I have the choice to change profession. I thought I'd try a Necro as with the Ele's large energy pool I can dish out lots of curses etc. Of course when you change profession you're only on basic skills and need to buy/capture skills, so really need to pick and choose the most useful.
Now I've tried the first mission at the South Shiverpeaks and been severly whipped, watching a couple of henchies die in an instant, I'm thinking interrupts are important, and carry Maelstrom for this purpose but all too often get interrupted as I try to cast it. None of the Henchies have interrupts, which is really naff IMO. The necro should summon and the Enchanter should interrupt. Still, that's not the way it is, and if I'm to interrupt/lock down I need to do that myself.
I've played as a Necro/Ranger before and know the Ranger has good inerrupts including Choking Gas that's easy to spread around, but then so does the Mesmer which I haven't played who also offers Echo further down the line. I also don't know which skills to get for each to supplement my Ele skills to best effect.
So, what suggestions? Ele/Ranger with access to Sprits? Any advantage to smaking all my elemental damage Cold with Winter? Are traps a good combo? Or Ele/Mesmer? Bear in mind the skills I get as standard with the profession plus I only want a few select skills for the second profession.
Recommend a second profession for PvE Ele

I haven't tried all the combinations, but I like E/Me for "echo nuker" and "shut down nuker".

Look at the Mesmer mantras, they might help with avoiding interrupts.
For the Ice Caves, you do not need to fight any mursaat or jades in order to do the mission, just avoid them and the mission is easy. I don't want to spoil it unnecessarily so won't go into more details unless you need it.
