they are both crap. you would NEED a fx5200 to even play guildwars. unless guildwars can fall back onto dx8 which i doubt

whats your budget?

what model of GF4 are you thinking about?

if it is the mx version no way if at least a 4200 than it will run it

i have also used a top 5600 which worked

i am using at present a 6600GT which is the best performance for dollar.

look at the specs of any card you pick and at least go to the GW site and choose something from the RECOMMENDED list and not the MINIMUM list as that is what is needed simply the absolute minimum to run it.

youneed a card COMPLIANT with direct x 9 and not just COMPATABLE with it

direct x 8.x will squeeze by but must be COMPLIANT (meaning it actually uses it) and not COMPATABLE (meaning it wont crash if you have it but does not do anything)

I would save up more money and shoot for the 100-150 range cards.

If you go with any Nvidia FX cards, do the 5700 Ultra or the FX 5950 and no other in the FX line. Also consider Ati Radeon 97xx-98xx series cards.

I would go to the Nvidia 6xxx series if you could swing it actually.

I'm running GW on the PCI version on the Nvidia Fx5200 256MMB Ram and it is very capable of running the game.

isnt the 5950 the model that takes uo 2 slots for the cooling fan and has been compared to a shop vac for fan noise?

Not sure but I know that the 5700 Ultra and the 5959 use the the later NV36 and NV38 cores which are much much better then anything else in that series. If it's true about the 5950 avoid it like the plague.

In general the whole FX series was a mess, but the 6 and 7 series brought Nvidia's rep back up

*Claps for the smart people who work at Nvidia, smacks the dumb ones*

Like the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, NVIDIA ships GeForce FX 5950 with 256MB of DDR memory and the GeForce FX 5950 occupies two slots,

Hehe, I hate video cards that take up 2 slots just so they can be properly cooled. The only HSF I would ever use in a GPU would the be kind Leadtek makes, wow they pwn.

I have a FX5200, I have been running it since the Betas and I am really glad my 6800 is supposed to be here tomorrow.

Do yourself a favor and get something better than the 5200. I have to run at the lowest setting in 1600 x 1200 to keep me sane.

Here is a screenshot.

As I understand it, the 5700 was the first to have DirectX 9.0 support. That would be my minimum suggestion, but for a few bucks more, there are cards that will run upcoming games as well.

I would use a GeForce 4 ti 4200 over any FX5XXX card. Seriously my older Ti4200 is way faster then the FX5200 that came with my older Dell a few years back. The FX5200 may be a DX9 card to the Ti4200's DX8...but speed is better then S L O W pretty pictures.

Agreed, I love speed much more than beauty
