Make Ascalon Settlement an Outpost
Xenrath
No idea if this has been suggested before, but doesn't it make sense to make the Ascalon Settlement area into an outpost as well? It's not the easiest place to get to for people around that level and IS a settlement after all i.e. outpost, so why not make it a proper outpost area?
Tactical-Dillusions
It's only a minutes walk from D'allessio.
wolver1ne
Walking there is a challenge to some, so I say keep it as it is.
Omega_2005
I think there is one close by to it... Beetletun I think... that is about 1-2 minutes of running/killing to get there, so the only advice I can think of is to level and get some better armor before going there.
Indian
dont be lazy, walk up there
its good for health

hehe well I have 3 level 20 chars so it's not a problem for me, just seems to make more sense to have it as an Outpost anyway seeing as how there are some outposts which have less buildings and are much smaller as well.
pyrohex
At the levels that I reach LA at, the only way I can get up there is to take Devona, Mhenlo, Cynn, and Aidan with me. And yes, it's pretty annoying to only get up there once.
Symeon
It's too near to Bergen Hot Springs, D'Alessio and Beetletun to need to be an outpost.
Sister Rosette
Not to mention the only thing there even worth interacting with
is the Skills Trainer.

is just a little run if u cant make it then try later some of those skills are really not needed if u have low lvl characters. try again later when u lvl 20 with 12 attribute stuff and get them.
Arcanis the Omnipotent
This would be solved with one thing.
Put a merchant in the settlement, but keep it as it is. I cant tell you how many times I've been up there and just said "Damn, I wish there was a merchant here"
Maybe if it became an outpost in Chapter 2, that'd be fine. Show the progression of time and the changes in the Kryta after the end of the game.

It doesn't sound like bad idea though after all it is settlement untill all return to Ascalon.I can't help wondering how they keep protected agaisnt all the ettins around there.
One and Two
The ettins feel bad about hitting the little children.
Seriously, it doesn't need a town. All it has is a skill trainer.
If you want skills, play the game and get to Ember Light Camp. It has all the non-elites up for purchase.

EternalTempest
That and how the Titans - Defend Krytia .. use that town. The quest would have to change.
Doesn't bother me either way.

Sofonisba
It has the skills trainer, but also 3-4 quests you have to attain and be rewarded for. So, it's not a one-time run you have to make, it's zoning and re-zoning for Reversing the Skales, Blankets, etc. Plus if you change professions and want to get some of those skills before Ember Light Camp...
King Symeon, why make Fisherman's Haven an outpost, when it's so close to Sanctum Cay?
I'm not passionate about making Ascalon Settlement an outpost, but /signed anyway - it's annoying.

It should be an outpost, but it help the story along more if it was made into an outpost (or maybe even a town) in the second chapter. After all, we are supposed to get a continuation of the storyline involving Ascalon.

Its an annoyance to get there with new characters.. Especially if your not a warrior, since you either have crappy armor unless you've gotten a run to droks, OR your a low level. Just like they've moved the characters in pre, moving that quest should'nt be a problem. They could also add things to the outpost so its not only a skill trader. There are a couple of merchants who you can't trade with, but they can be changed to trade things like materials, and dye. Or perhaps craft weapons. This is a good idea in my opinion.
NOTE: And yes I'm meaning low as like level 10-8. If your level 7 and below.. Do NOT even complain. It's your low LEVEL thats preventing you from making it there, try leveling a bit. It's ridiculous seeing a level 10 or 11 in the Maguuma Jungle or even worse seeing a level FIVE in the Crystal Desert.

DarkSider84
Beetletun/d'alessio/LA/springs are all so close to where the town would be...if put in an ascalon I think it'd just be another too close portal, no real need, even with a low level if you take your time out, you can make it there unscaved, Plus i think arenanet doesnt want a map with far too many towns and all you see is green/gold/silver dots across map other than actual landscape & mappage.

i absolutely agree.... its just stupid to even attempt it at such a low level......
back on topic
i think that making the ascalon settlement is a bad idea...... when im there that is one of the best ways to get xp..... a run to ascalon settlement..... LOTS OF FUN!!!!!!
Deadlyjunk
It would make the Defend North Kryta quest a LOT shorter, which is not what we want is it? People would start in the Temple with 8-man party, have the warrior run them to Settlement, change their skills for combat there and if they lose, restart only seconds away from where they started.
