I have a problem I am Lv 8 and have no more quests.
Myself and another newbie went outside the gate/wall and after an hour realised there wasn't a next lv town there.
So please where do I go and how do I get there-I am totally lost

yeah the missions are what usher you to the next zone...i didn't figure that out until i was level 13, then i went back and did every mission until 'the wilds' (a few zones past lion's arch even!) which was too hard for me as a lvl 14 monk fighting with only henchies.

..You have left pre-searing Ascalon haven't you?
If not, go and talk to Sir Tydus.

It sounds like you're still in pre-searing Ascalon. You should talk to Sir Tydus in town and enter the academy. Once you finish that, you'll be in the main part of the game, where there's tons of quests along with all the storyline missions and everything else.

The only real way past level 8 in pre-searing is to go after the charr in the northlands, but after trying it myself (ouch! ) I realized that if your goal is to get past level 8 in pre-searing, do what I did. Don't do any quests ( only your primary profession quests) until you hit level 8. Yeah, it's a grind, but it allows you not only to start off at level 9, but also lets you build up a real nice stash of gold/crafting stuff/equipment/etc;
But it all depends on your play style. Some people want to rush to post-searing as soon as they hit level 3, others like to take it easy and explore everywhere. I am more the latter than the former, explore everywhere just to see if I missed anything(that and to clear the map so when I hit "M", there is no fog)

Pre-searing is only good the first time. Made 3 characters so far
(to find a class combo that i love) and on my 3rd character i rushed post-searing ASAP. In my opinion the sooner you go to post-searing the better,
you can get a better start on building up the items you need that are far superior to anything thats pre-searing.
