I tweaked my normal PvE build a bit, and came up with this slightly odd, yet effective, build.

R/W

Attributes:
Swordsmanship: 12
Tactics: 9
Expertice: 9 (8 + 1)
Wilderness Survival: 8 (5 + 2 + 1)

Skills:
Troll Ungent
Riposte
Savage Slash
Gladiator's Defense {E}
Sever Artery
Flurry
Apply Poison
Res Sig

Ok, I know what you're thinking: "OMG, Sword, n00b!" Well, let's not forget that I'm not going for damage. This is a minor Condition spammer with minor countering and moderate damage. I'm positive I surprised a few with this build, and it was unusually effective for taking out the enemy priest.

Obviously, the things that really pwn this setup are 1)anything that causes Blindness, and 2) Empathy. Beyond that, I could surprise the players I was going against, and then when they turned their ultra powerful W/Mo on me, I shredded him. Needs a good healer to complement, and a real Warrior would be great with it.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what may make this build better? I'm always up for improvement

You have no way to damage, and a melee ranger won't get target so glads and riposte are useless. Assuming you're talking about an entire team all playing this build, you'll be completely raped by anything but warriors and rangers, and once again, this build has no damage output.

"I'm not going for damage." You win by doing damage (warriors, spikers, etc..), mitigating damage (monks, earth eles), and preventing the enemy from mitigating damage (mesmers, interrupt rangers, some necs). All the build has is damage mitigation, and that's only on yourself. Of these three things, mitigation and shutdown are optional (though it's foolish not to have them), the only thing that's necessary to winning is damage. The damage from conditions is completely insignificant, and considering the popularity of boon prot in 4v4, the conditions won't even stay on their targets for long.

then I must have seen the lowest dregs of the 4v4 arenas, because I managed several wins with this build, a number of flawless, and I don't think anyone ever tried very hard to actually remove the conditions. Yes, I'm well aware of the boon protectionist monk, but I didn't see any.

and, no offence, but thinking that damage alone is the only thing that will win a game for you is kinda foolish in and of itself, IMO.

Try winning without dealing damage.

Maybe you were playing at an off time? There are some nights I've run a 4 healing axe W/mo team in TA as a joke and gone flawless all night, the build's pretty obviously lacking and being able to win with it won't help that. It's got a good ability that can go far in the right hands, savage slash. If you're good enough to hit consistently with that, it rocks, but why not put it on a dps build instead of a weak "conditioner" who gimps himself with flurry?
