Satisfied with character looks?
Kamatsu
Hi, Hope this is the correct forum (if not, please move it to the right forum). And before anyone says anythig, this has nothing at all to do with the recent updates in the game.
What I'm wondering - am I the only one who finds that after awhile they don't seem that satisfied with the "look" of their character? ie not happy with the face, hair, hair color, etc
I find for me this seems to be a major issue after I watch a few GW music video's and see how other people's character's look, and then look at my own and find myself unhappy with my characters.. am I just a shallow person? LOL
It's strange for me since I liked the character's looks when I created them (well, apart from 1.. but thats another issue.. hehehe) but over time I guess I get hmmm disenchanted with them and want to remake them to look different.. Problem being I still do like my characters to a degree.. and I picked their looks because it wasn't too "common" and they did look nice..
But right now of my 4 characters I'm only really happy with my Mesmer and the rest... I dunno.. LOL I guess I'm just a very shallow person.. My Mesmer I like, my Ranger I've never really been happy with (not too impressed with any of the Ranger faces), my Warrior & Elementalist looked very nice when I created them.. but now.. not too sure..
I don't know.. I might just be shallow.. but I also tend to re-start character's based on the fact I constently want to try new combination's.. like I'm always wanting to try between ranger, necromancer and monk.. I have some nifty thoughts on them all... but also want to run my wariror, elementalist & Mesmer through the game.. and I have restarted all my character's at least once... and constent thought of re-starting 1 of my 4 characters as something else.. LOL I need another account.. wish I had the money.. LOL
But really, does anyone else find themselves wanting to restart char's purely because you find yourself not satisfied with the way they "look" in the game after awhile of playing them?

Yea, i wanna change my necro's appearance. I had a slow as computer with a crappy GFX card when i first started playing so i just skipped appearance and im stuck with the worst necro face + white combover.
onilink
I wish I could change rangers hair. There should be a "plastic surgeon" that you can go to change your look.
Siren Danica
I agree with you...
I liked my female Necro's hairstyle at first, but then I realized it covered up the facial scar pattern, and that really bugged me. Also, the hair covers one eye, and that bugs me as well.
So I did get that first female Necromancer through the game, and have now created a new female Necro and have her up to level 15.
But, I do wish that you could change the character's appearance after creation. I don't think it would hurt the quality of the game any, so not sure why the game design is like that?

I wish we could also change the sex of our characters. I hate my male elementalist (but I dont want to delete him, took me a while to run from ascalon to sanctum mission).
jesh
... Yeah, that's not EVER going to happen. I don't see what Anet has to lose with an interface to change hair color/style.. that's a good idea I hope they pick up. I, for one, am disgusted that hardly any females get long hair besides rangers. What the heck is that? I'm pretty satisfied with my characters as they are, because I spend like 4 hours trying everything, until I find what I like looks best on my screen. I know what you mean, Kamatsu, i have the same problem as you.. just wanting to try everything.
I think in the next expansion, they should put in a totally new char creation interface.. like entirely seperate sections for each part of your character's appearance. You'd get to chose eye size, color, eyelid shape, eyebrow thickness and curve, lip size/shape, nose size/shape, density, color and length of facial hair, bone structure, *amount of flesh on your char*, and for hair, a WHOLE bunch of things.
*Hair highlight, midtone and shade colors
*Hair thickness
*Curliness
*Length, including bangs, sideburns, back and sides of head
*Shape - you should be able to mold the hair as you see fit, for example make spikes by drawing lines with your mouse, or a bun by drawing a spiral... that might be too much, so maybe something more like a bajillion different styles, but you can change them in any way you see fit.
*Layered or not
As for flesh color, it should almost be an RGB scale. Obviously something like neon green wouldn't be possible.. but just about anything else, why not? I think this would add a TON to the game, seeing how right now, clone wars+grind wars = guildwars.

I seem to remember reading in one interview not that long ago that there were plans for adding more character appearance options... there was also talk of spending gold to get new hair, colors, etc.

With seven characters, the only one I don't like was my female warrior - she has those stupid tassles for hair that makes me think of strip clubs. Luckly, with the recent updates, I can wear a helmet everywhere, not just out of town.
Yup, my tank is bag over the head ugly.
FeuerFrei
yea..im fussy over my chars looks as well...infact..if my char looks like crap...i u know what ill do
Roza
A hair-stylist is certainly called for, with some more hair-do's (along with more armour-styles). No need to have a plastic surgeon, though (at least something should be decided at character creation only). But adding more faces might be a good idea for the next chapter.
Well, the second part may be a bit weird, but the first part seems fine to me. Or are we obliged to drink dwarven ale by way of money-sink only?

LOL. My guildies are always making fun of me about this. Maybe its because I'm the only female, and I'm, well, bored, with my characters' hair. Oh, and my ele, she needs a tanning salon. It was fine when she wasn't wearing hydromancer armor, but sheesh...was there a reason I made her blindingly white?
And I think one of their comments was, Why not a nail technician too?

Yup, a nail-technician would be good, but we would need a zoom function to tell the difference.
I agree about that tan thing, though it may be too much to ask for. My necro is wearing tormentor's (the one that leaves the shoulders and quite a bit below bare) and so in most places my pale-skinned character looks like a torchlight. No tan-lines though.

Yup. I've remade 2 lvl 20 characters who had completed the game in full 15k just because I thought I could make ones that looked better. They did. And I'm happy

I'd love for the plastic surgeon... the monstrosity of a Warrior doing Air-humping just disturbs me now. I thought about remaking, but the 1.5mil xp, and 15k armor, and customized weapons ended that thought.

I can live with most of the classes and characters, but the ones which really are in need of some improvement are the Monks, at the very least the hairstyles.
Can't say for male monks but for female ones the majority have the "princess leia" haircut, relatively few take the half shaved styles (can't blame them) I don't much like the male half bald/shaved ones either...

I too would really like to have the ability to modify my toons appearance..at least things as simple as hair color/style and skin tone.
As for new toon creation, why restrict face and hair style to specific character classes? Shouldn't be too hard to just have a face and hairstyle menu that you could select from for your char regardless of their class. It would certainly add more variety in character appearance.
Besides, some of the female faces (particularly in certain classes) are just hidiously bad. They look like men in drag.
At least it would be one update that everyone could appreciate.

Wow, I must say I am semi-surprised that I'm not the only person who feels this way (although with the number of people playing GW, I really shouldn't be surprised).. Makes me glad I decided to make this thread.
I do wish there was some way in-game to change at least hairstyles and color, that in itself would be really nice and helpful for people like who who get "bored" of a character's looks after awhile. I do believe I remember something being mentioned about them putting something like that in the game... although iirc they said they couldn't let you change tan lines or faces.
I nearly fell off my chair when I read this, especially the 2nd part.
jesh - Indeed, I just want to try different things. Try different combo's, change my looks, etc. I just find that after awhile of playing one char I'll start thinking about a completely different combo and build and strat to try out... and it'll bug me till i delete one of my chars and startup a char of the new combo.. and I'll play that for a bit... Or I'll see some GW movies and/or character's in-game and prefer the way they look to my own chars and want to restart my chars to look "better"
I do wish there was a way in-game of changing looks as it would solve some of my re-startitus that I have.. LOL And maybe I will actually finish the game at some point... LOL I have never ascended any character, I've had 2 characters up to the Desert.. currently only got 1 there.. and I just keep on restarting.. LOL Some of the restarting is disatisfaction with my character look's...
FeuerFrei - play them till you puke?
Memphis - heh good for you. I've remade my characters a few times and still want to remake some of them.. LOL
Xenrath - I have to agree that Monk's need some major loving. ANet really dropped the ball when it comes to monk's. Why do they only have shaved/half-shaved and Princess Leia hair styles?
And as Trinity Entragian said, some of the female faces are just out-right ugly and shouldn't ever be able to be selected Seriously though, a wider and better selectiopn of faces would really go a long way... or why not let people choose any face they want and not have the faces class specific? Or maybe have some class specific while others are general faces that can be used anywhere... not like you can only tell a profession by it's face... LOL

When I was making my monk, I made him, then deleted him and changed his name, and remade him. I was a bit hasty remaking him... and it took me a while to realize... that instead of making him black with white hair... I made him black with scandinavian-looking platnium-blond hair. It looks so wrong and wierd and bugs me everytime I see it. I'd pay quite a bit just to dye his hair pure white.
Sendai
i'd like to have more phenotypes at the character creation. Not races, but something like little/fat/thin male/female models.
I sure it's not going to happen as i guess Anet would have to design their armors as well (15k tormentor anyone ?).

Well rpg wise, a plastic surgeon would be a it overdone for a fantasy world, but not being able just to change you wear your hair .. or dye it every once in a while ..
At least a barbershop would be nice, perhaps in Denvravi (since there's nothing else to do, jungle already is the least poplular area). A nice place where the tired defenders of freedom can take a little luxurious break

Barbers/Hair stylists are a horrible idea.
Players need to have access to alter their character appearance in any way they want, at any time they want. Period.
They need full access to the "character creation screen" to be able to edit any aspect of the characters they have already created. Including sex, body size, face... everything you can do at character creation, you should be able to do at any time. New NPC's/interfaces aren't required, other than perhaps one NPC who does nothing other than gives you access to that same exact screen that you use at character creation.
Since this is all cosmetic, it would not unbalance the game in any way whatsoever. Hence there is zero legitimate argument against it and it should be implemented ASAP.

I'd have liked to see some older avatars. An older looking Necro or Elementalist would be cool. I'm not necessarily talking Gandalf style, just not someone who is 25.
Ideally, one could mix and match eyes, noses, mouths, face shapes, but that might be too much of a graphical/computational strain.

A way to edit a chars appearance, sort of like changing the 2nd profession, would be nice, as we often make mistakes when first creating a character. Then after working that character up through hours of quests and missions (ok, I don't like running), we sort of are stuck with what we have. I mean, if we can go to a plastic surgeon in real life, why not in GW ;-)
A funny thought: the more time we spend in towns just trying to sell stuff or partying could maybe be considered as time with little excersize, so that the more we do this, the more out of shape and fat our characters become. Just an idea. Maybe the more we get "run" instead of playing the quests and missions, the fatter our characters should get? Now that would be interesting! Think about seeing a level 6 fatso hanging around Thirsty River trying to get into a group so that he/she could ascend
Seriously, though, it would be nice if Anet would increase the options for clothes and armor. I paid the money for 15K armor for my mesmer and ranger (both female chars) because the enchanters outfit and the fig leaves look great! But I don't feel like doing the same for my monk or elementalist because the options here are not so dramatically better.

And a casual but addicted player like me doesn't spend time farming, so buying those precious gems from other players isn't an option.
So please, Anet, also increase the selection of those items found at places like the Grotto and Granite's Citadel.
