Stupid question about main and secondary skills

Thinking about messing around with a Nec/War. I assume that doing so would prevent me from acquiring the skills under the Warriors Strength skill or would I be able to acquire them just not boost them (due to not having the Strength attribute to skill up)?

You can use the skills, but not boost the attribute. (So they'll start being less usefull later in the game.)

I suggest the W/N anyways. Better armor, but you still get the important abilities (like life stealing.) Soul Reaping is much more useful if you are a minion master.

Main reason for Nec/War is my main character over many games has been a necromancer (and his name is also very necromantish). That's more from an RP perspective. I just wanted to make sure I could use Sprint and Endure Pain.

I feel as though I can make anything work. My main will still be the Monk\Ele. This guy is more of a mess around character.

I've noticed that Primary professions have access to skills that Secondary professions don't have. Is this only true early in the game or is this the way it is? Will a Secondary profession be able to eventually unlock all the same skills as a Primary profession?

Correct, all skills are available.

The one and only different between your primary and secondary classes is your primary attribute, and your armor.

NOTE

while you can get all of the skills of the secondary all of them tied to the primary attribute of the secondary profession will be (and stay) at the base level

Thanks, Loviatar.

That's a good point. You don't lose too much functionality on Necro skills (as there isn't anything tied to Soul Reaping.) But if you intend to use Warrior skills like Sprint, Endure Pain, etc. it can make a big deal.

You will also be sacrifing some amount of damage as a Necro primary, because the strength attribute passively increases armor penetration.

That's debateable. The question is, better for what purpose? If you're using a lot of energy-based skills, Necromancers have much better armor.

Whether you'd be better off going W/N or N/W depends entirely on what skills you intend to use and how you intend to play.

Like I mentioned before he wouldn't be a character that I play often, just with some RL friends. The monk is still the main man......

I'm gettting this game in... a few hours, and I was curious if Ranger/Necro, or Necro/Ranger was a good combination? I was thinking I'd go Necro/Ranger, would I be able to use pets, and my summons? I think using that combination may be fairly effective because you'd gain energy from the summons dying and such from the necro primary skill, which in turn places less emphasis on the primary ranger skill you'd be missing out on (Expertise, lowers the energy cost, etc)

Is this a decent logos? Any suggestions?

Good idea for PvE.

Minion Masters do quite well in most PvE missions. And you are right about not really needing the Expertise if you are going mainly Death Magic.

Both N/R an R/N have benefits, but your synopsis sounds about right. The only thing to keep in mind is that neither Soul Reaping or Minions will do you much good in PvP. But for PvE they're pretty nice.
