How to tell what you're going to get from a drop

1.) They aren't always holding one, but sometimes you can see a weapon or focus. If it looks unnatural, it's going to drop





This isn't to say when you go to FoW that all berserkers will drop Chaos Axes. This only applies to monsters that are different from their normal skins.


2.) If a creature is taking less damage then he normally should, say in a firestorm [no longer viable] or Zealot's fire [see firestorm] then he is holding a shield. Hopefully this info saves you time in areas like UW, if you're trying to figure out whether to kill the last aatax or not.

I can confirm that shield thing. I used Flame Burst next to 2 spiders and the one that took lower damage had a shield.

If you haven't noticed in Sorrow's Furnace, most of the time if a boss is holding his special weapon/offhand, he'll drop it. However, sometimes even if they aren't holding it they'll drop their weapon.

I killed a grawl in witmans folly which was wielding a defender....sure enough that is exactly what i looted from it.

Yea, I have tried to point this out to some PUG's in game with very little success. Everyone just kinda goes "huh??" then ignores me the rest of the time. *sigh*

yup, it's true. I get many a focii from that. Simple. If he holds it, it usually drops <9/10> times.

It looks pretty funny when tiny, transparent smites are holding something . Never saw them holding an ecto though ... .

i can remember reading somewhere about this.

items that enemies hold are ALWAYS from their possible loot table. By no means does it HAVE to drop however. it is simply a possibility.

you can also tell when an enemy is using a vampiric weapon (the Shiverpeak Centaurs carry a lot of them). i've killed tonnes of them. never got vamp from em though

its cool when you take vampiric damage, then you kill the guy and he drops his weapon. You ID it and its vampiric heh. Kind of what the person said above me but ive actually gotten some.

yep, they can't be holding something they won't drop. But if they are holding it, it means a high percentage. If you have hench in your party, it might 'drop for them' (meaning it won't show up) or I guess it might not drop at all.

W.R.T. UW: In all the ~250 ecto I've farmed I've never [noticed] a smite crawler drop a different item than that he was physically holding in his mandible

I have noticed this but when ever I see the weapon actually there it pops off and is either purple or gold. I am not complaining, but I agree it's funny when you see a Grawl having a hammer and a shield at the same time... OMGZOR they HAXOR!

Oddly in the grawl situation sometimes its the hammer that drops O-o

Somehow, was doing Charr mission since I skipped em all, one had a Sickle but dropped a Ram's Hammer.. o.o
