So I am completely new to the game and I am playing a elem/monk character. I got to level 6 and did the path to glory quest and bam i'm in post searing. I'm having a really hard time in post searing with the enemies being a lot tougher. I was wondering if i kind of screwed myself and should ahve leveled more in pre searing. Should I reroll?
coolsti
Nope!
I remember my absolute first character, a Mesmer. When I got to post searing I was swamped every time I went out that door! I thought this was a real tough game, and really had to struggle to do anything outside of Ascalon.
But then I learned how to play the game. I now am working on my 5th character, and Ascalon area just after leaving pre-searing is not difficult at all. Why? With my first character I didn't know how to play with henchies, and didn't use them as teammates correctly. I also didn't know much about the various combat possiblities, especially in teams of 4. How to lure, how to fall back, etc.
Your first character is also the hardest because you don't have any hand-me-down money and higher level weapons from earlier characters.
No reason to restart. Just keep trying, and you will get there. Later you will be missing those days when this game was still a real challenge.

Nah, you are doing fine in all likelyhood. Things you might not have done, which are important, would be to buy new armor from the crafter in ascalon. Your actual level helps, as it increases your skill levels and hp, but usually its your equipment with your skills that has the biggest impact on effectiveness. Usually focusing on 3 areas and building your skill bar around them will improve your character's performance as each skill is more effective. Also, bringing henchmen will improve your odds of sucess, but not as much as other player can. I wouldnt worry too much about dying in non-mission areas, because the monsters do not come back and you will level up eventually. Sure you get a death penalty, but you work it off over time with more experience you get. I'd give other suggestions, but im not there to see what is happening exactly.
aron searle
i left pre seering at level 3 on my first charachter, So your doing fine.
dont worry youll pick it up as you go along.

I'm on my fourth character, and I usually leave pre-searing around lvl 5. I actually just started a character recently and would be willing to run through some of the ascalon quests with you using my new lvl 6 necro. You'll find it much easier at even a low level if you have someone there that knows the general game, and the quests.
My IGN is Rc The Monk, or Rc The Mad if you want to add me to your friends list.

I remember I first started the game with the opinion that going out into post searing is suicide if you're under level 6. Truth is, look at the henchies in the outpost of each area and that's the defining level for the surroundings. Giving or taking a few levels is okay as well.
Such as the desert (without spoilers) henchmen are level 17 there and I have no qualms about taking someone who's level 14. However in the higher level areas it gets a bit ridiculous as a level 14 facing things 10x their level and missing out on a lot of attribute points is nowhere near as effective or tough (due to 1. their HP being lower and 2. the armour effectiveness does depend on your level as well) as a level 20.

You'll be fine, learn the essentials:
You fall 7 times, you get up 8. Makes you stronger/gives you knowledge in the long run

my first character was a warrior, I went to pre searing at lvl 5 and found a black dye I sold for a fiery dragon sword! I was one hot n00b

I had a w/n briefly, and for some reason kept getting swarmed post-searing (no henchies + aggro everything = dead warrior). Then I deleted him and started a r/e and kept getting overwhelmed again. I then made a n/me and loved it, and then made a w/n, then played my r/e to ascension. Now I have my first monk.
Moral: don't give up. Try a new char for a while if you want, but don't delete and don't give up. That's why you have 4 character slots. You'll find one that fits, then you'll really get into the game.
