In the between.

Heros Etc.

From... the monitor itself. Not speakers?

That's kinda weird.

All CRT screens make a high-pitched sound, although very few people can hear it. (It drives me crazy if there is no other sounds to mask it.) I'm not really aware of anything that would make it buzz though.

If it blows up, will you sue? ^^

lol.. just seems to happen with GW. It's definately not my speakers because there are completely off at the time. It's not really buzzing, it's just a high pitched annoyin sound that comes from my mointor because when i turn my monitor off it's fine! lol

Huzzuk, here's the problem. It involves the Screen Refresh Rate that your monitor can handle. This setting is in Hertz. The higher the resolution...say 1600x1200 the lower the refresh rate...say 50-60hertz. The lower (800x600) the higher the refresh rate can be (85hertz). If the rate is too high at that particular resolution for that particular monitor you will get this ear bleeding high pitched sound.

Another possibility is that your monitor is picking up RF interference from another device. I have even heard of monitors picking up AM radio stations. You might be stressting some component of your system (sound card, video card, etc) with Guild Wars in a way that the other applications you have tried do not, resulting in some different and/or higher level of power dispensation from a particular device.

In this case, however, my first instinct is to agree with paulniswander. If you can run other games at 1280x1024 and don't hear the sound, it is more likely to be an interference issue.

It sounds like you have your refresh too high. There is a setting in the game option menu to set the refresh. See what your monitor can handle in relation to the resolution you want to use. It is important to know what your monitor spec's are. You can have it too high with no obvious warnings until the screen goes dark and smoke appears. If you use a refresh higher than your monitor can handle, it will damage the monitor. Don't ask me how I know this....

Omg yes, that sound is so annoying. And yeah, the higher the resolution it goes the faster it has to regenerate those pixels on your screen. And of course more of them as well, this would mean your monitor probably can't take such a resolution.
