Ingame-mail

My idea: Ingame mail
It would help in a number of ways, namely:
Make it easier to trade on forums like Guildwarsguru.com/tradeforum, as you won't have to meet.
It would give you the ability to trade with people who are many hours away from you.
I think it would also help people who have more than one account. I guess it is rather irritating to not be able to 'trade' with yourself because you only have one computer.
Good Idea?

als if you could jsut send messages that would be invaluable. when guildies are not online at the same time as you but you want to tell them something, it would be nice to be able to shoot them a message they could read when they log on.

Something Like Eq2's Mail system: send them gifts too. I like the potential of this idea, but elaborate more, please.

I'd like an in-game PM system, speaking for myself. Is that what the OP means? Basically just the ability to send a message to someone who's offline. It would just be nice to have a simple communication system present in game for the times two players are trying to communicate and one is offline. At present, the only way to do that is to communicate outside the game structure. Would be nice. For this purpose at least, it doesnt have to be anything complicated at all.

Yeah, having mail would be great. Sometimes you need to leave messages for guildmates and such who aren't on.

I think this is a good idea. Especially if we could send items too.
Wouldn't it be nice to log on and find that an anonymous donor has given you a max gold crystalline, a pile of ecto or a fetid carapace?

ummm...i like the idea and will get my hopes up for a simplistic email type system between accounts, but won't get my hopes up for receiving spontaneous gifts like ecto or crystalline swords....lmao

I like the idea and it would help communicate with Guildies. My only concern is logging in to find 350 spam messages "WTS uber axe and saw you in LA D1" since your character name is open for all to see in a town, or even here on forums if posted.
I don't know how it could possibly help with buying/selling though? What "send me 200k and when I get it I'll send you the uber axe" ~ yeah, right, sure, I'll fire that 200k right off to you!

- Accept all
- Block all
- Accept only (and then have entry fields like friends list, and/or include an option for friends list)
- Block onlyl (and then entry fields which includes anyone you're currently ignoring)
Though, now that I think about it, I don't see this happening. The ignore list was made to be pretty small for a reason...I would think this is due to space/bandwidth on the servers.

My idea was actually(ill explain it once more because i see my first post wasnt clear)
-send text messages to others
-send items/money to others
I see your point of getting spam, but the idea of a 'spamfilter' by naming the people who are allowed to send you mail.
But I think it would be a good thing to also be able to ignore this 'spamfilter'.
This could be done by saying:
Pay XX gold and you can send mail.
This way you would be able to contact people who you enjoyed playing with, but it would prevent spam. Because for spam to really work a price of lets say 100 gold is like high. Making it profit-less to spam.
Another very good point, but I think it would help people with 2+ accounts.
Also, maybe an even more advanced system like:
When I Received XXXX gold, send XXXXX-item
-send text messages to others
-send items/money to others

Funny I was kinda thinking the same thing. I have 2 accounts, and I am not able to run guild wars twice on the same computer. So I have to rely on a trusted friend to transfer items from one account to another. I always thought It would be fun if they had a Mail system.
maybe in the towns there would be a Post Carrier NPC. If you have a new message/package an exclaimation mark will appear over his head. This will be great if you have a lot of friends in game. And if you can attach items to the message even better!
They could even charge like something really small to send a message ... like 25g or something... just to keep people from spamming WTS...etc in everyones mail.

Thanks for that. I might try it. Im not the best with that kinda stuff so hopefuly I dont manage to destroy my computer. Im also sure that My computer will slow down to a total crawl when I run it twice, but perhaps if i change picture quality to low in the options it will help?
But i still like the Mail system idea!

WoW has a mail system, does it suffer from abuse/spamming? (I don't know)
Ole Man Bourbon
I played SWG which has this, and it's invaluable. GW suffers from a lack of community, and the absence of in-game mail is one of the reasons.
Spamming isn't much of a problem with ig mail, btw.
*Another thing I really don't like is how character names per account aren't connected outside of the guild window (and only works when the player is online). For example, if I, Joe Blow, whisper John Doe (my 2nd character), the whisper should pop up in my (Joe Blow's) chat window.
Finally, friends lists should have a spot where you can make a note about each friend.

ya, like DDO's mail system let you send friends - or whoever - gold, armor (since armor isn't customized), weapons n stuff. was handy to send stuff to my other characters that way. if you sent just a message it's 3 copper pieces. if you sent items the postage increased depending on the "weight" of items like in a real postal system. of course, in gw there's only gold pieces, but you get the pic.
& in ddo it doesn't get abused. atleast i have never gotten spam mail.

GW does use wma files to play music, doen't it?
Why not to talk to our 'dear MicroSoft friends' and add a feature to log, talk and use MSN inside the game instead of an inner system that would require more servers?

WoW has Mail. With the mailboxes all about. MUST HAVE MAIL.
Pay on Delivery, pay on sending, etc. Have items inside the bank, so when you recieved item, your item is sent to them. As for Spam, having a Pay to send fixture would cut-block that.

That would be so nice for guilds, it would be soo much easier for a guild leader to keep in contact with his guild, because i've noticed that ppl over look the guild announcement, and its almost impossible to get your entire guild to register on the forums, I have Officers who refuse to register on forums, so i mean this would make a guild officers job so much easier, because a guild forum would just be an add on, not a necessity
MithranArkanere
Well... cince you can maptravel so easily in this game I don't think you need delivery systems unles you play in different schedules than other people...

the feature has been invaluable in a couple other games i played. sending gifts would be nice as well, but, ahem, a little bit too similar to The Game That Shall Not Be Named.

I would like to expand on this idea. I would like to see, in towns and outposts, something like a bulletin board with a faq or something so you're not hearing and answering the same question, over and over.
During the halloween event, how many times did you answer the question, when is the mad king getting here? Or like with the bug on the quest, "To Dye For", what's wrong with this quest?

Yeah the game needs mail bad....if I want to contact someone I can't leave them a message, I have to wait until they login.......its pretty annoying.
Games like WoW have mail services, and it pretty nice.
I would love having a mail service....we need one.

It can be hard to synchronize play schedules with people you met online; mail would be a good feature, maybe in a similar format to the guild announcement thing. And perhaps it could send a copy of in-game mail to your real email account, too (only if toggleable, of course)?

Best Idea so far. It wouldn't even waste space if engineered correctly, you'd simply get a one time message the next time you log on if you have mail.

I have to say something: Yes, using real email makes sense, but sometimes we don't know the email addresses of our GW friends. Before my video card went bad, I used to hang out with my online friends often. I never asked them for their email address. I saw no reason to ask for their email address since I see and talk to them almost every time I log in to Guild Wars. A few months before my video card died, my friends weren't logging in as frequently as they used to. I wanted to know why, but couldn't find out because I didn't log at the same time as my friends did so I couldn't whisper them.
So uh, ingame mail would be really helpful.

Mail just makes things so much easier, and it's also a lovely way of sending and receiving gifts.
If they do implement so-called "Life Skills", and people can make all sorts of interesting crap, it would be great sending such crap to eachother through in-game mail.
The last time I played WoW, a friend of mine sent me a telescope through the mail. That was really quite cool

Abuse : I (and countless others) use the mailbox as additional storage. Send a ton of stuff to an alt, and the alt lets those stay in the mailbox till they're needed. In WoW, alts have almost no direct relation to the main - no shared storage, no shared guild etc. So in GW, I dont think this can be abused, since you wouldnt be able to send mails to yourself. Storage is cheap anyway, so I never felt guilty using the system in this manner, given how much money Bliz is getting off us.
