Particularly to axes...
But in general as well....
There are only 2 upgrade components allowed per weapon...? (Sheild too? Never saw a sheild upgrade is there any?)
But what I really want to know is how do you know which bonus you lose or rather which one you are upgrading...?
Example when you apply a new upgrade and 2 are existing which will you lose, how do you know?
Thx.
Drawven...
Searched here and abroad...

All weapons with two components will read x [weapon] of y. When you upgrade, what gets replaced depends on the upgrade. x parts replace x components, and y parts replace "of y" components:
Here's a list of components:
x:
x Staff Head
x Bowstring
x Sword Hilt
x Hammer haft (? not sure about the terminology)
x Axe Haft
y:
Staff wrapping of y
Bow grip of y(of whatever is not the bowstring)
Sword Pommel of y
Hammer grip of y
Axe grip of y
x and y are variables and depend on what mod you're talking about

The prefix usually refers to the hilt(sword), haft(axe and hammer), string(bow), or head(staff) and the suffix usualyl refers to the pommel(sword), grip(axe, hammer and bow), or wrapping(staff)
However if you have a sword thats a crippling longswrd of fort for example, it is supposed to look like this:
Long Sword
xx-xx dmg
req x swrodsmanship
legnthens crippling duration on foe
health +25
but depending on if you add the crippling hlit at a later date it can look like this:
Long Sword
xx-xx dmg
req x swrodsmanship
health +25
legnthens crippling duration on foe
The same can appear with axes, bows, staffs, hammers.... but it will always read prefix first, suffix second. the order of the stats doesnt matter.

think. Axe Grips and Hafts. Hafts usually are the ones with definitions: like "Icy, Poison, vampiric, etc." and Grips usually are "Fortitude, enchament, mastery, etc"
How do you know what you'll lose? Simple. If it's an effect, it's a hilt/hammer haft/axe haft.
If it's something like HP, Enchantments last longer, mastery %, it's a pommel/hammer grip/axe grip.
hope this remedied. And how it reads, it alwats reads effect first and fortitude last, from what i've saw: Example: My axe: Icy Chaos Axe of Fortitude. If you switch the haft, it'll update the previous, and if you update the latter, the latter.
Say you want to switch the icy <because you're in the shiverpeaks now, just double click fire haft and it'll overwrite the icy haft.> remember, also if you upgrade both haft/grip you can only salvage one back.
Hope this helped.

hey guys thx alot and that link was awsome booked it!!
Former Ruling
2 upgrades per yes, 2 mods no.
Something can come with "inherent" mods that cant be gotten form upgrades. The popular +15% damage while over 50% health (15>50) is an example.
