So far I've been building a pyro elemental in game as my first. I haven't put any points towards anything else yet and was wondering if it would be useful to put some into water? It seems like the haste spell later on would be pretty useful. Also if there's an item that says armor pentration 10%(10% chance) does that mean it penetrates armor 10% only 1/10 of the time? thanks!

Water is a "support" element, regarded by most. Armor of Mist, I presume.
The 10% means in every hit, there is 1/10 chance of it having 10% armor penertration. Not very useful, in my opinion.

imo, water elementalists aren't very usefull in pve, but they rock in pvp...
so for now... you can wait with the water line.

malstrom is nice... was nice.. haven't played my water ele since before the almighty nerf of aoe's.

I've been trying to play my water ele, who is really useful pve with the snares, blurred vision, and the tie-ins with nec hexes. But, I've only been able to pretty much go with henchmen so far (I'm at goddamn bloodstone) because most people think, no nuke = no party. Hell, I make nukers jobs so much easier by keeping the monsters grouped up and slowed.

Seems like now is a good time for water, earth and air elementalists since the AOE update. I have noticed that PUG's for FOW and UW are looking for water and earth elementalists specifically because of the wards and other foe slowing spells.

ah okai thank sfor the answers, i think i'll get a better feel forit when i actually get to lvl 20

I just switched from fire to air on my ele, using the usual high dmg spells for dmg, but also enrevating and blinding flash work great for UW, blind attaxes make the first part of UW much easier.
Earth warder would be good, but erruption is a bit useless now, just makes enemies run, EQ/AS is pretty good fun.
Water in pve is a bit inferior atm, mael scatters enemies and slowing enemies doesnt do a whole lot of good when people in your group dont know how to take advantage of it.
If you wanna try water i suggest a hydro Me/E for pvp, great fun, arcane echo on mael is pretty badass, with water attune to keep your energy up you can put some fast dmg out by spamming trident/spear on a monk, they usually try to run so trident keeps in on their ass.
I find in general water works much better on mesmers.
