Its one reason Utopian societies always fail. For that to happen there can be no currency, if you need soemthing you trade in equal amounts for it - so everyone is as equal in society. Whats that cuase? what if you need something from a plumber and your plumbing is fine? Of course before long IOU's would come about...not long after that people will be trading IOU's are services...They would have then effectively made IOU cards their currency..
It's simple... have everything available enough, via drop rates or merchants, that nothing is rare enough to take on an inflated value. Remove gold altogether. Then add enough new content to give people more to do now that farming is obsoleted.
Granted, it takes a major brain shift. But it's doable.

Nice, even I'm still guilty... merchants would need to be redone somehow. Perhaps if you give the merchant 50 units of any salvageable item, you get to pick something in exchange?
