WOW. Lomar's Pass is crazy.

Lornar's Pass kicked my ass back to Tuesday of 1957. I killed the ugly as butt crust tree dude, then 900 billion imps and golems turned me into a fine pasty gelatin.
I have attempted the run so often as to become -60% but I still have yet yo reach Sorrow's Furnace, my ultimate want right...now...

and by the way, those damn birdmen "fierce" things are an unbalanced bug in my opinion. 1 hit kill. I'm sorry, pointless engagement?

My group got pretty far(next gate), reason we had to stop was mostly time. I am lev 20 Nec/Mo and we only had four human players and than picked up the two warrior henches. What was nice about that is that I put death nova on them and they would explode when they got hammered and than I could raise my minions from their corpses(and put DN on them too). After the battle, resurrect henches and rinse and repeat. I would only focus on keeping our Wars alive and getting minions up.
Anyways going to actually try make a night out of it one night and see if we can get there. If anything, its a lot of fun, even if we are face down a lot
btw all being a voice program does help communication...

Apocalypse Creed Mercenaries(ACME) It is live. I read about it on the gw site and followed their comments to locate it in the shiverpeaks.
I still haven't got there yet, but my tennacity is legendary

Lornar's is easy enough with a decent party. Dreadnought's Drift is MUCH harder, but can be done.
Ripper
Just to clarify. Lornars Pass --> Dreadnoughts Drift --> Snake Dance --> Camp Rankor.
Then you have to make Talus Chute before reaching Droknars Forge. All very very difficult.

I used a warror/monk lvl 20 that has alredy been to drokanars forge and past that with the best armor that you can buy in the game and i ran about 75% ( BY MYSLEF ) before i was kiled with mending, healing breeze, and Sprint all the way so even if u do some how make it, it will for sure take you at least 5 hours or more if u fought. theres no way to do it unleess your whole team has 15k armor on ( Best armor ) and u can mabye do it in 3 hrs MAX.
Sentinel
ahhh...the 15k armor is not the best as far as numbers are concerned.
The 1.5k a piece armor you get at droknar's forge or the one you get from the collectors in Crystal Desert is already max on numbers.
The 15k a piece is just different (some say better) looking armor that you find in places around the forge. Same numbers!!!
Anyway....personaly I don't see the point getting to the forge via Lornar's unless you already beat the game and you are looking for new challenges. Just follow the quests and the storyline and you will see why.
I sometimes enter it by myself with my W/m to test a build, see how long I will last and how many I can kill before I'm neutered with DP. Tweak my skills set and atributes and repeat.
My guess is that Lornar's is there just to tease people. A little bait that the devs thought to dangle over the players. I'm prety sure in their spare time they sit and watch PUGs enter into lornar's and have a ball with all the new ways their map kills people...lol

Lol keep whacking at it guys ... you will get it .... in case you havent noticed it isnt an area meant for 6 to try to get through. It is available to you to attempt, although hilarious, not recommended. This area is nothing, Dreadnaughts Drift is a war. Not meant for a group of 6 ... meant for a group of 8. This is post ascention content but for fun and an access way for the impatient to try ... you can go through Beacons.
Even with 8 humans, you still often need smart players, not a n00b who aggros all. There is some real neat content in their ... and devastatingly difficult mobs. Its more recommended to race to temple, then run to sanctum. Then ascend and utilize 8 people. If you use hench from beacons you are just asking for death ... you need high armor and a smart team.
I believe Dreadnaughts is the toughest area of the game so far ... but if I ran the underworld before ascending wearing less than level20 armor ... I would have to say underworld is more difficult ... getting hit for 100+ is nothing compared to what they hit in the underworld

The error most people make is that they START TO RUN ... then you have a problem because then the worm will go underground, and then you have a problem, as it will knock you down or go for the softer targets (read monk)... thats why you will only succed with a well organized party, which doesnt run and cry for their mommies the moment a wurm pops out....
wrong. best way is to run. no pickup group can pass snake dance. i run ppl to droknars on my w/mo from time to time. i see more and more ppl doing it now - some making a good buck on it.------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are 10 types of people. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

yep w/mos can run great... i died on my 1st try running
like 20 steps from camp rankor almost made it too

Who said Snake Dance was hard?
When coming from Camp Rankor?
I made it all the way from Camp Rankor to Beacon's Perch, using only henchies, without running at all.
It's not that hard.

After finishing the game with my first character. This was a few weeks after GW was released. During this time, there was no such thing as going from Beacon's Perch to Droknar's Forge. Anyway, as you already know after finishing the Lich, you return to Droknar's Forge. Well, I decided to start exploring. I made my way from Droknar's Forge to Camp Rankor, then through the nefarious path to Snake Dance, then to Dreadnought's Drift, a mad dash through Lomar's Pass, and finally reaching Beacon's Perch. I say it took me at least 2 hrs, or may be. I died a few times, but gained lower DP as I killed almost everything from the path from Camp Rankor to Lomar's Pass. I had no chance against those worms so I used sprint and let my henchies take the beating. I did it all with henchies and myself as R/Mo. Probably this journey from Droknar's Forge to Beacon's Perch was a bit easier back then, than now. But I still recall killing a bunch of enemies that were in my path. I have never encountered so many Giants and Trolls until going through Snake Dance. Good thing there were some Dwarves helping out.

I've gotten through lornars, dreadnoughts drift, and halfway through snake dance. Lornars is the easiest part of it. You don't need to go there at all, since after you ascend it brings you to Drok's forge anyways. Its just a quicker way to droknars for those who've beaten the game, and know what they're doing. BTW, Ice Imps hit like 0-8 damage on me...

Well, about two or three weeks after the game came out, I managed to make the run from Lornar's Pass to Camp Rankor with a group of 3 level 19's a level 14, a level 17, and a single lonely level 20. It took us a LONG time. Probably a good four hours to make it a measly 3/4 of the way.
Hands down, the hardest part was the first map (lornar's pass proper, if you will) where we were essentially forced to hammer our way through, avoiding imps, dodging around the wurms (usually leaving people behind), and then finally bulling through the last gigantic swarm of monsters with whirling defense, and sheer tenacity. It wasn't fun.
The second hardest, and the longest, was the huge bottleneck halfway down where the stone summit pile up six feet deep, and twelve feet high.
We did make it through there, eventually. After a good two and a half hours. It was done by drawing chunks of the summit (the healers specifically) back to the spawn point, and then repeatedly beating on them with backfire, DoT spells, and whathaveyou. Eventually we whittled them down enough to sneak by, and then nuked the (thank god) ever-stationary giants.
I think Lornar's pass is supposed to be the ultimate mid-level challenge, or a moderate high-level reward (there ARE a few cool collectors up there). It succeeds pretty darned well at being both.
But... it is possible to do it without someone who's ascended in the party.

I paid 2k to be run from Beacon's Perch to Droknar's Forge. Not a bad deal considering the entire party dies except the runner and you get to watch how everything is done. You get to see creatures and boss creatures mentioned nowhere on the Web. If you want to be mean, you can stay back, let the party die, and start resurrecting the fallen party members while the runner keeps going. Simply hilarious when a fallen party member almost cries because you won't let them watch by resurrecting them each time they commit suicide via trolls. Anyway, when my character was run to the forge he was already L20+. I only needed to complete Thirsty River and the Dragon's Lair to ascend, so I don't recommend anyone less than L20 to pay for a run. Enjoy the game first, complete the story missions, and then go back and do the things you couldn't do the first time around without paying someone. If you do pay a runner, make sure the runner is a real gamer and not some schmuck who's going to turn around and sell gold through IGE. Never pay upfront either and never more than 2k.
kareel
Yeah, running has become a good business.
me... I just don't feel like I've earned the trip until I've run it myself.

heading up from Camp Rankor it is quite easy so long as you're patient. Me and a guildy did a run into dreadnoughts drift to cap Feast of Corruption and for the most part only the henchies died once or twice and even then DP's dont last long because of the sheer number of critters you need to whack. Funniest bit was when we got attacked by about 15 or so trolls at once. I think 2 or 3 patrols got bunched and they all came at us. They didn't last long though. Once the first 1 dropped it was a steady stream of putrid explosions with the odd well dropped to heal the henchies.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I'm curious about something. The other night somebody in Beacon's was trying to sell very pricey runs to the Forge, and claimed he could always get people through in less than half an hour. Is that correct for a competent runner, or was he making it up? Seems crazy compared to some of the anecdotes here.
arnansnow
I have seen people boast 25 minutes, so I suppose it is possible in less than 30 minutes, but I have never been on a run personally, so I wouldn't really know.
Mind Wallaby
Less than half an hour is correct for a good runner. I'm not a good runner myself but I have a friend who's run me a few times in around 25 minutes.

Yes, Lornar's Pass is crazy, however it can be run through in a short amount of time by someone that knows what they are doing.
