It quite funny (in a nice way) to see a post like this as it brings back a lot of memories...on the 20th of January our guild will be 8 months old...
Like you I started the guild when scrounging for money in Old Ascalon and was working towards a cape till i was in Ventari's Refuge...To me that was a tremendous achievement then

...lol
It is true that the baby-steps of any guild are indeed the hardest ones.
Throughout missions If I saw a player that was not necessarily skillful (although many were) but had good team-attitude and was polite I invited them to join me. Some of these players are exceptional people and their skill is truly superb. By the time I completed the campaign there were about 5 of us...
I farmed hard and long to work towards buying the Guild Hall for us. The way I saw it was, that it was something that i wanted to offer them as a leader, something for them to take pride in and defend, and as a little meeting place.

...I did not ask for money of anyone as i wanted to see them prosper and develop financialy, and at the same time i jumped back to do most missions with them...
As more new characters were created on the account i started picking up more people and decided to promote 2 players to officer status after 2 months of them being in the Guild...At the moment we have four officers and 25 members...bear this in mind however. Whoever thinks that the guild might be small by their standards, out of these officers I would trust all four to be assigned as guild leaders if I ever need to be absent. Every single one of them...
The members are not only my responsibility (as well as the officers) but they make me proud to have onboard...A team that would abandon everything they are doing to run to someones aid when needed, makes me truly happy to see...We don't sell items if we know someone else might have use for it...We know all the Chars that everybody has and how they play with them, where they are progress-wise and what they might be requiring.
Although there have been bad apples, two possibilities might take place. First they don't last long. They usually just leave the guild because they feel no allegiance to the other guild members. Second would be, that either me or an officer would issue a warning and " thouroughly" discuss the problem. A second warning will be issued if the problem lingers. On the third strike those members will be banned. I do trust my officers and their ability to make decisions, because i know they are responsible, mature guys, that now how to have fun playing the game and allowing other players to do the same.
I must have said this a hundred times, and i ll say it again. I would rather have a small guild that I can depend on and that support each other, rather than being part of an impresonal 200 member guild that we do not know each others names and chars...
I do suggest avoiding spamming in towns that members are needed. my reasoning is that in order to invite someone you need to have a basis for that, be it their skill, or character and personality. Watch them how they interact in game and decide. If at the first sign of hardship they start calling everyone a "noob" (god i hate that word

), then you do not want them...if you see a caster that decides to sacrifice himself to cover the team's retreat although he will die and suffer DP.....That's the person you need to invite...
My apologies for the long reply...
