My advice to you
??Evan??
I have read numerous threads about people frustrated with tombs:
Plain and simple , dont beg to get into groups that are higher requirement than you have IT WONT HELP.
Step 1. Download ventrilo!!!!
step 2. Think of a build you want to run
step 3.Go to a very popular tombs district ( american district 1 for americans )
and create a pick up group.
If somone isnt doing their job either kick them or tell them how to do it better.
Make sure everyone has the right skills / attributes.
Ask them how often they play this character and what skills they usually run
people tend to run things they are confortable with A LOT better than something brand new.
Do this for one week efficiently ( 3+ hours a day ) and I will gurantee you will have rank 3.
~If you have tips to help people in tombs please post them. Also post easy 8-man builds to run.

It isn't that simple. First off, someone new to tombs is not going to be able to design an 8-man build from scratch. Second, american 1 has declined vastly and is pretty much an IWAY district right now. Third, it takes a considerable amount of time to put together even a decent team.
Step 1 is good advice, but steps 2 and 3 aren't going to get them anywhere.

Frankly, THIS IS A GAME! Some of you in tombs take this game way to serious, as if your life depends on it. This same attitude of not taking people into Tombs is also seen in TOA. Those same people you dont want to take, normally form better groups than the "experienced" people. The best way to learn how to perform, is to simply go in and do it. All this practice this, and download that is not worth it. Grab a PUG and get in there. If nobody will take you, then its not worth your time. Sooner or later, nobody will play this game anyway, and all these "experienced" groups will either leave, or be begging people to join.

Valid point. There IS a lot of snobbery going on it seems in the US. I haven't seen much of it in the Euro Tombs staging areas......
So if you are desperate for a try in the tombs, switch over to the Euro servers and have some fun with your European cousins

im in EU.
you see very few PUGs looking for a certain rank of people, most are pretty basic.
it is relatively easy to get in to a PUG, if you advertise yourself correctly...
instead of saying "LFG LFG LFG", say your character's role or what you can play, and then add a little, harmless "LFG".
you dont even have to lie about being rank 2, when you're rank 0...
good:
"shutdown mesmer lfg"
bad:
"lvl 20 mesmer lfg!!!!! come on!!!! take me!!!! /pickme /pickme"

I'd take a rank 0 player with voice comms any day over a rank 9 player without - although i think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone of rank 3 or above without. I wonder why that is?
Now you can just grab a PUG and go if you like, alot of players do this, joining groups from random invites and such. But then again, as is noted, alot of players are frustrated that they cant find a good team. You arent going to learn much from playing in blind PUGs and getting badly beaten every time you go in, you are only going to learn from playing alongside players who know what they're doing.
Now I dont agree with the snobbery that goes on, because any team, if its any good, can easily absorb one or two players of lesser experience and still win (I won HoH when I was way back on Rank 2 for example).
So get yourself a voice client (ideally both ts and vent to give yourself the widest chance), get yourself a headset with a mic, go to the international districts rather than local, and learn to type your join requests and 'lfg messages' in reasonably coherent sentences rather than type like a 12 y-o kid. Be prepared to be flexible, and dont make claims you cant back up. Do all that and you'll be fine. Yes, it can take 30 minutes to find a group worth joining, but this is better than the alternative. Join random PUGs with no voice comms and you're going to find it a very long, very hard, very frustrating path to higher rank.

Partially im glad that EU pugs dotn realyl look for rank. much more fun to run across late at night here in US.
heres your best suggestion. go to tema arenas first and find a few good people that you coordinate with. good pvp players are always testing new builds in Team arenas or comp Arenas. Find a few that pvp in tombs. If you play well and you do good, as if you could join them sometime when they have a free spot.
Thats how i got my start. The group i was runnign with liked how i played. i got into the guild that way, i earned my spot. Anyone can do it that way. or find a group in arenas that want to get into tombs. look around on one of the many boards and find a build that you know your team is capable of playing. go try it out.

You need to have a team that has good players that know what they are doing. It’s hard to find this kind of team (rank 3 or otherwise). You just have to join up with people that match your needs regardless of rank and see how well they do. If they do poorly, boot them and try again. But don’t discriminate by rank, otherwise those people that are really good, will never get to rank 3 and beyond.
Sir Skullcrasher
Nice advise! I'll create my own group from now on instead of trying get some rank before even getting pick up by other people.

The fame/rank stuff is busted, at least the way it's being used by US tombs goers. Stiffling fresh talent and turning them off from pvp in general.

- Download and install the latest Ventrillo
- Create a Username upon opening it.
- Join the party and get the vent address. If you are hosting, make an LFP and in party, blurt out the IP, address and password after creating it. (skip step 4 if you are hosting)
- use the IP Port and password from the link the person messaged you in the party, and make a name so you know what you're doing
- Click connect, and see if they can hear you. If they can't hear you, do steps 6 + 7. If you are hosting, ignore the connect button
- Lower the sensitivity and increase the volume of both mediums (Inbound + Outbound) on the options menu (by clicking Options)
- Try and speak to the members until all are satisfied
