Can't figure out how to unequipt a pet, please help

Ass the title says. Trying to to do the first ranger quest(the rangers companion) but can't get my current pet to unequipt so I can tame the pet for the quest.

You need to talk to a tamer. They will take your pet off you.
There is one outside of Old-Ascalon or whatever the place is called. (At work not home so can't check name).
In pre-searing there is one next to the Ranger who gives you the charm pet skills in Green Valley.
