Helping new folks
The Vr of Silence
I only started playing guild wars 1 month ago and noticed that a lot of experinced players are very ignorant to newcomers and are unwilling to help or guid newstarters. This site a great for knowledge however i have decided to go one step further and will contact the admiins for there support.
I spend my time collecting all types of weapons and sell a few to survive however i also do the following.
Each friday in ascalon i give away weapons money and materials to noobs to get them started in the world for free. On friday gone i had a line of about 40 noobs all queing to get a little freebie and guidance on what to do next. I would like to know if anyone would also like to help on a friday to support these folks.
Cheer The Vr of Silence.

Why just Friday?
Our guild has enough new members and things going on that it is hard to find time for things outside it, but I've given away stuff and advise when able. Someone asks a question, answer it. Someone asks for help, help them. Regardless of what day it is.
I'm wary of freeloaders though. If they rushed through pre-sear and can't afford armor, should I help them?

I take people over the two shiverpeak missions, borliss and frost gate, then run them to Kryta at least twice a night... and Im only on 2-3 hours. I try to take those who "appear" lost. Lately though, Im working with my guildies.

I quite often help new players out on quests around ascalon or give stuff away already - althoughh mainly to new guild members, but I have stood around ascalon offering free chaos axes and eternal shields I've found to new warriors.

One thing you can do to help beginners, is to stay in pre-searing for awhile, telling people the True Value of Dyes and not to fall for stupid scams.

Just think before you do something like this:
How would you feel if somebody did this to you?
Friends in GW are priceless, unlike the 500 Gold you'd make with this scheme.
EDIT: Aw, a Joke. Nm.

Whenever I try to help out new people in missions and hard quests. Some of them just don't listen and run off and ruin it for the whole team, especially when your almost finished. It happened to me about the first 5 times I tried to help people. Now I just give advice to those that ask. I do help new people in my guild since they actually listen and don't do stupid things.

I used to keep decent low req weapons to give away in ascalon/northern wall. Problem was that I kept getting people on their 2nd characters and I wasn't going to advertise in all chat in case I got spammed by greedy trader types trying to freeload.
Good for you for doing your part and more. I'm on the UK servers so if you let me know which district you're usually at I can give you a hand.

I do my bit by giving free runs to outposts around ascalon with my ele.

I'm ALL for helping newbies (which are different from noobs and nubbs. Noobs are people who are just arrogant little.... Nubbs are people who pretend to know everything but really suck, and newbies are the innocent kind who are just new to the game), but...
Well, I DO have a presearing character, or I did for quite a while. It was a lvl 11 E/Mo healer or nuker, depending on the class of the person to help.
I helped countless newbies... but still
Some get clingy and are ALWAYS asking me for help.
I know some noobs who have beaten hells and still don't know the owrkings of the game, the builds, the items, etc.
Those people are hardly worth my time. Six hours to help a random noob is ENOUGH.
Its also because I HATE asking people for help or money and ANYTHING other than Thunderhead. The rest are easy enough for standard PUG's or henchies (mostly henchies, the friend of the real GW player).

I have one post and one pre searing character. I use the post for my actual beeswax, leveling, quests, for my own good and such, and the pre searing for noob helping...though your right that the noobs do get clingy...i give them a little gold and a weapon and they start asking for 2k and a Longbow of Fortitude....oh well, I guess thats how people are...but giving out advice is a good idea...should start doing that sometime...

Some people aren't worth helping. Also look at this way, we figured it out on our own. I mean hell you have tons of knowledge avaible to cheat your way through anything. We had nothing. I say get over it, and do it yourseelf

I rarely come across any "new" players anymore. ITs all "Willing to run to this" or "Farming group that".
Maybe once in a blue moon, I'll run across a worthy newb that will either ask for my help or I will offer help. Unless I find them to be deaf jerks, then I will ignore them and keep to myself.

I rarely come across newbies but when I do I try and help them.
I was in Ascalon 2 the other night trying to sell a perfect Vampiric sword hilt [which I haven't sold yet *hint hint*]. Anyway, a guy was asking for a cheap bow that was better than the bows you get in pre-searing. He said he didn't have much money and all that.
Anyway, I left Ascalon and went farming at Augury and went for a shower etc. I came back to Ascalon later and this guy was still there.
So I tracked him down, and gave him a good enough starter bow, a purple max dmg bow with a few bonuses for later on in the game and 1k.
I could tell he was a newbie because before when I was talking to him through whisper he was asking where to go next and what to do.
Anyway, it felt good helping others.... I could get used to it

I'm still pretty new to the game, and I try and help those newer than me. Just recently gone to Post-Searing and I've left one of my characters in Pre-Searing. So from time-to-time I go back to Pre-Searing to help out other new players. Usually I just answer questions about quests and (most commonly) where armour collectors are found and what they need in exchange. If anyone need materials for a collector and I have some, I give them away for free.
Any help is better than no help, we were all new once.

I spend most of my "free" time helping guild members, but when I have nothing else to do I will go into Ascalon and answer questions, give out low requirement weapons, help on missions and even donate some gold now and then. The one's that make me laugh are those that are begging for 2k to buy guild capes.

I don't mind answering all-chat questions, it takes hardly any time at all..... Except when I was in Beacon's the other day and a guy asked in all-chat, the easiest way to get to underworld. So, I answered, and he asked, "Where is the Temple of the Ages?" and it turned out that although he was ascended and everything, he had never been to Bergen or Beetletun and didn't know where they were. I switched characters and offered to run him from LA to Bergen, where I knew he would find a group heading to ToA, and then I had to log.
So usually answering questions doesn't take but a bit of effort, sometimes it leads to more involved activities. Meh, I offered, he didn't beg, so it was all good.

I'm conceded to help noobs. Not worth my time - no one ever helped me !!
I mean, I USED to help them, but not anymore...
I'm trying to get enough money for fissure armor

As is you shouldn't "EXPECT" help on anything unless you "ASK" for it. Simple enough. And even then, you might not get the desired results.

One reason why I don't sit in Ascalon or anyplace for hours helping, is because it IS hard to separate the new players from the new characters. I do help out if I happen to see someone need help while I'm there, but I don't camp an outpost looking for people to help.
If it were easier to identify new players, I would.

Its, well....
Ever since people started taking advantage of me, I stopped helping them and everyone else, especially after I got scammed .
I tend to judge the random populace of GW similarly...
Unless you are my friend, you are classified as 'random person'. This isn't always bad, but i'm skeptical of any trades, complaints, asking for money or help (being run through something) etc.
Sorry if this is abrupt to you, but I don't trust people other than my friends on GW. I used to, but after being... in a way betrayed, I don't anymore. Blame Baku the Crusher

by the way, I've learned to game is SO easy if you use henchies for the almost the whole game. You can pause and wait AND go afk AND stop and do something ...
Anyway..

I like to help new people who seem to ask for honest help. I refuse to help people that just seem too lazy to play the game themselves. I helped a guy playing a Warrior from Yak's to Borlis Pass. He was giving his best to fight his way. Along the way he said, "if I just had a better sword..." so I dropped Grognar's Sword for him. I didn't realize at the time how much I just gave him. Needless to say, I found out what people will pay for that! Ha Ha! Oh well, at least I am not too concerned about being the richest...

Speaking of free things, i have given free weapons (Purple Fellblade, Gold Swords and others) to different players who team up with me.

All right, I’ll make ONE concession to the anti-helpers. But it will NOT stop me from helping when I can in the future!!
I’ve given plenty of stuff away in my time, though not much recently. Your story, Fungus, reminded me of the many times that guildies will complain about having a “crappy” shield or weapon. I happen to keep some decent stuff lying around for just this occasion, so I put a couple of offers up in the window. Like if they’re a level-10 necro for instance, I’ll put a truncheon req 7 blood, almost max damage, and a cesta +11 energy. Instead of accepting the trade, they show me their low-req gold uber max defense, energy, armor, health and damage staff. Someone, a former guild member or a stranger, maybe gave that to them a long time ago—which causes them to assume it must be crappy, and they want something better.
I think if I ever give stuff away again, I’ll make sure the recipient knows how good it is.
