K... fiery dragon sword gets flame dmg
y cant a chaos axe get chaos dmg?
y cant a fellblade have dark dmg?
i dunno... makes sense 2 me... im guessing though that chaos and dark dmg are not elemental so it does nuetralize some spells. (for instance dyrders defenses takes a hit)

It says in my outdated prima guide that chaos damage from a wand or staff ingnores armor. If the chaos axe did chaos damage, according to this way outdated guide it would ignore armor and make wars uber powerful. BUT thats just this outdated guide.

Chaos damage is armor-ignoring (illusionary weaponry anyone?). One warrior with chaos damage and the axe spike skills would be able to spike-kill any target in the game, with little to no backup.

That'd be really really cool in PvE. But I think the reason they kept it as physical (slashing) dmg is in case people wanted to use the big shiny in PvP.
Because if it where Chaos Dmg, then a bunch of the Physical damage-triggered stuff, like "Mark of Pain" and such, wouldn't go off on a chaos axe. And it also helps PvP players' expectations that Warriors will do either Physical (most common) or Elemental damage (with a Haft/Hilt). Plus, if it were chaos damage, then it'd be effective versus BOTH Warriors (physical resistance) AND Rangers (elemental resistance), and anything in between (there goes the armor effects) --- Might be a little too much of an advantage?
Personally, I think the coolness factor outweighs the balance factor and they should make it chaos damage for the hell of it. :P

And to the OP, nice thought.

Elite Enchantment Spell. For 30 seconds, you deal no damage in melee, but whenever you attack in melee, target foe takes 8-40 damage.
As far as I've come to understand it-IW doesn't do chaos damage...the mesmer's power lies in her ability to make you THINK you're taking dmg. Just because she swings at you doesn't mean it'll hurt-but she makes you think it will...that's why mesmers are still good against Droknar's Armour in the Ascalon Arena-because they penetrate straight into the mind. It isn't chaos dmg that ignores armor-it's the mesmers spells.
edit: I didn't realize that Savio had already made the same point

there are chaos axes with chaos dmg but they are still subject to armor
