Heh, back then you didn't have a choice of what part you could salvage.
For example if you found an Icy Longsword of Fortitude, you could salvage it and end up breaking your sword with only an Icy mod to show for it. Also GW had only been out for 6 months :P

It happened a while ago, but I'm not quite sure.

I know one time I got a q9 insc perfect Wingcrest Maul.
Another time I got a q10 Voltaic Spear from my 50th VSF run. Too bad some guy hacked it -.-"

The best thing that happened to me was a looooong way back, when I was pushing my very first character through proph. (it was waaaay before factions even existed, and it was first few months of GW) Not to say too much, I was a ranger and I was broke, the most I ever had was about 9k, and barely had the money to get droks armor, and had to use a non max bow...
I was doing ice caves of sorrow (about 3rd or 4th attempt) and the 3rd gold that *ever* dropped to me through the whole game turned out to be a r11 15^50 fellblade, that back in the day was worth a fortune - I sold it for 90k! (which to me was a fortune)

When i nuked the crap out of some aggroed enemy in the jungle with ms way back when the game came out. i thought i was the absolute best.

slightly lesser other events:
getting my first VS from doing the run. must have ran it 100+ times before that.
getting my first ecto from 600/smite
getting my first good gift from nic. a keg..

It is late June, 2007. It is my first day in Guild Wars. My first character (a Ritualist, Qing Guang) has just entered Sunqua Vale for the first time. She begins slaying mantids a few feet from the entrance to the monastery. The first drop is a generic Sunqua Blade. The second is a black dye.

No joke.

Having been a Wiki fiend (reading GuildWiki got me interested in the game), I recognized its value and sold it to the trader for 10k. That money funded my characters for the first few months of play.

I'd say that's pretty lucky.

back in 06, when i made my second mesmer, i took her through UW with some random pug and the first group of aatxes in the first chamber dropped me a req8 15^50 storm bow, which at the time was worth something like 100e.

THose old posts are so... good times

finding a laid back and like-minded guild / alliance. It has by far made the game more enjoyable.

I've been spoiled on GW by my friends.


This is from when I was a newbie, and joined my current guild, this was in '07.

-Given 45k for all norm ele skills
-Given 40/40 fire set.
-Given Runes, mats for max armor and was payed for-for a Droks run.

Recent, another friend decided to ask for my GW login info, and of course I trusted them. I was right to trust them with it.

-Given 3 character slots.
-Given GW mission pack
-Given all campaigns + eotn skill unlock pack for my heroes.
-(different friend) Gave me keycode for CE Factions, but had to give miniature to the player; which I had no problem with.
-From when I was playing GW for 2 weeks, when PAX was around my friend got me a code for a Grawl miniature, and I still have the mini. (Just recently I bought that same friend, who got me into GW and the mini Vabbi armor. It's the least that I could do, since he wanted the armor so much for his necromancer.)

---I do feel kind of guilty for what my friends did for me, but it doesn't mean I don't appreciate it. I do try to make it up for them.

-In a great alliance, and guild. Everyone seems to enjoy my humor, and I really enjoy the fact that I'm welcomed in such a great gaming environment. I have to say the lead guild of the Alliance are great people, they're so kind, amusing, and helpful (but not all the time).

-(edit) I forgot about this. A while back, I think it was my first Wintersday this nice random player gave me one of their Unded' Miniature Pig. It was so nice of them. We were hanging out in LA and we hung out for the rest of the night. Unfortunetly I forgot their IGN, and lost contact since then.

Best thing that happened to me?

Black Dye drops. (can't remember where)

Me: Hooray! First Black Dye drop in over two years of playing!

An infintesimally small time later: White Dye drops.

Me: :O ....\o/

Today, while killing level 2 skale, I got a white dye and a black dye.

This is the second time I've gotten both in one day

The luckiest thing that happend so far, is that I became af member of the Bloodwake Rangers [BWR].
They're always helping me out! :-D

Got a q12 prot BDS, my only good drop from a chest. That thing is my baby. ♥

Well, since it isn't really restricted to just drops, right...

Seriously, the first time I defeated Glint. I came in after Factions and had been warned by several friends that Glint was terrible and hard and people went back to try for bonus several times, so I shouldn't expect anything to come of this. Not on a first character on a first try.

I got indescribably lucky. The PUG team my friends and I joined also had a group of three friends who had failed to kill Glint several times and were so determined to kill her that they had turned up really, really prepared to take her down once and for all. I think one of them said they'd tried to kill Glint five, six times, and their teams failed. We succeeded. My first try at Glint. Maybe it wasn't all THAT hard, but it certainly felt epic after what people told me - and quite frankly, getting a good PUG is lucky in and of itself.

(Also, being apologetic about someone dying and getting told NO NO IT'S OK YOU DID WELL I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME is a dratted good ego-booster. Good PUG and huge ego-boost in one tiny m+b. I call that good luck.)

On a more recent note, q12 blood BDS which funded a lot of my titles - on my third SoO run.

Not a big thing, but it just happened: Pugging Kephket on my assasin. In the middle of that circle of nest builders were a locked chest. I love chests and someone said they wanted it too. After Krehket was dead there were still 4 nest builders left, and I assumed we would proceed to kill them and then open chest. 2 people rushed in to get chest, and then left while i tried to fight and died to the traps, and 2 more left.
And then this nice monk offered to rez me and keep me healed while i got the chest
So there are still nice people in GW

about 9 months ago I was filling up my Hall of Monuments.
I needed a few more pets to make 20. Some dude sold me a white rabbit for 20k. He knew what he was doing and was just being generous because I was nice to him as we working out a deal for a different pet.

I sold it for something like 100k+30e or maybe 20e. I got a pc on it from my guild but don't remember it's value then. I had been farming to get chaos gloves. That money plus what I had, made enough for me to get em.

getting two sup vigor drops in two days last week. In general the best thing which happened to me in GW was meeting very nice people in the guilds I was.

I ferried a level 3 Ele from NF to LA and did the Olias quest for them, said just tip me what you think is fair when it's done. He gave me 8k. Needless to say I told him the next 1 is on the house

Back in the day a buddy of mine gave me everything I was missing to get my first set of max armor on my Warrior, he even bought the materials he was missing from the trader for me. <3 u Tim!

Can't remember what dungeon it was but some guy was test running one of them for free and at the end I got a R9 insc Fellblade from the chest.

All the times I've watched people QQ over bad monking not realizing that a non-elite bar running Assassin is not a tank. (We've all been there...)

_ Win my first HA, guildmates and I were so happy .. good times..
_ Win for the first time 10 consecutives in RA and got the 1 point glad.
_ Kill an Aatxe, because the first time I entered UW, they killed me (one shot) and I was afraid of returning back...
_ Finish Prophecy (and get the protector too), because missions of Ring Of Fire was so hard with PUG.
_ Got the Legendary Survivor Title.
_ Succeed first run to Drok with my Warrior.
_ Have 20 minions with one char.
_ First 100k in the storage.
_ Got a Gwen Doll when opening my first Traveler's Gift.

Hmmhmm... I wish the good old time of GW'05-06 come back again...

Getting 5, yes 5!, sup vigor runes when they were so much money *-* all within an hour time while ettin farming<3
