DirectSong had to go
EternalTempest
I love the direct song packs but replaying the game from start with a 2nd character had me come to a conclusion, remove DirectSound.
I miss the "common" music and the repeat tracks was driving me nuts.
I did what people said in the forums and zaped the windows registery entry (I can re-enable at anytime) and the game sounds so much better now.
Note: I have OST, SF, and BP1 direct sound packs all installed.
Been so long since I heard the Orginal Lions Arch music.

I'm pretty impressed with the BP1, SF was ok, not heard OST, some of the tracks are a bit sharp, not quite fitting for background music but still a welcomed change.
EternalTempest
I've had them since they released, and the OST before it integrated in to GW.
I love the OST, SF, and the new music battle pak music.
It's the repetion of the same songs and no longer playing all of the original songs that caused me to do this. I've gotten so bad I was ignoring the music completely so by turning it off, hearing the orginal tracks games sounds refreshing me.
I can still play the in Windows Media Player and can re-merge the registry entry to re-enable it again.
Ah not right for to conplain with offering a suggestion for change: here is a post started previously:

How do you zap it in the registry? I deleted the music files coz they gave me all sorts of problems.

How do you disable the regisity? As I long to hear the old intown music for a change
Any issues you had can be fixed by a quick and simple reinstall of Windows Media Player 10.

I remember a post by Gaile shortly after the September 29 update when they "expanded in-game music" saying that she misses the other music too and has contacted the developer(s) of DirectSong and they claimed to be working on a fix. She even hinted that we would have some in-game control over the music. But I haven't seen anything on that subject since then.

Here's a link to one of her posts btw: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ght=directsong
Meh, that one didn't say anything about more in-game control but I remember seeing that somewhere.

Gaile did mention in a post (forget where) about tweaking the "trigger" points for DirectSound but if they have done it already I can't tell.
I did this:
Start -> Run -> (type in) Regedit (click ok)
Find this Registery Key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DirectSong
Right click on it and choose Export (it will save/back up so you can re-enable it later)
Then once your done, delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DirectSong
Registery Key.
(Be very careful if you edit the registry)

Thanks for the registry tip. I used it and it does go back to the core soundtrack, but the area music is still not right. For Lion's Arch it's playing "Droknar's Forge.wma"... the original in-game music was "Aidan's Theme.wma". And if I jump from town to town I hear the same few songs wherever I go.
Kinda makes sense though -- the Sept 29 update modified the playlist so different songs are used everywhere. Ah well... it's not a huge problem but I do miss the music that used to be triggered in specific places. Seemed to fit better with the area than they do now.
Gaile - if you're reading this, do you have any updates on the DirectSong changes you mentioned in the post I linked to earlier?

I got the mini pack but i could never hear it in game. Everywhere i go have the same 4 track. The only place it have different music is in cinematic. Even grenth's footprint and sorrow furnace have the same 4 song as in pre searing.
I never played with the music on until i got the minipack.. so i never heard any of the other music.
Im planning to buy the 2 other music pack next week.. just because i love jeremy's music. My only hope is the songs are longer than dungeon siege's one because 46 seconds song kinda suck.
Too bad jeremy soule don't make CDs with his music.. i'd sure love extended version of dungeon siege's and guildwars music. I could listen to dungeon siege's main theme for hours

Giving this a shot, seeing if that gets me by my GF/SF woes.
And I can always re-try once WMP10 installed if I feel its worth it.
edit - so will still be stuck with repetitive and/or not localized music though?
well guess we'll see what happens - I think its a shame they never resolved the music stuff

Never had it. I just run Winamp.
