Useless Golden Items

Hello all,

when i first started playing my eyes started to glow if i found a golden item, nowadays however, this is no longer the case. The reason for it is this: most of them are simply useless to use and imposible to sell. An example: You find a golden fire staff with the upgrade "improves skill recharge using divine favor skills" As everyone knows, an e/mo will never use divine favor skills since its a monks primary attribute. 9 out of 10 wands/staffs/focus items which i found have upgrades which are not the same as the requirement of the weapon. In my opinion if a weapon is for instance a firestaff, the skill recharge/casting speed upgrade should always make use of of fire magic skills, if not that, certainly not having to use skills from the primary attribute of another profession. Another thing is golden armor. Many times when i identify it, it gives a major rune. Golden armor, in my opinion should always have to give a superior rune because they are also colored gold. I hope Anet will do something about this, so that golden are items are truly gold.

Well the item you mentioned, the fire wand with divine favor recharge abilities could be usful.. i have a Ele/Mes and i capped a fast casting elite skill even though i dont have the fast casting attribute.. so i could still be useful to have a weapon that gives recharge abilities to divine favor.

Hi,

the eliteskill of fast casting you've mentioned (mantra of recharge) doesnt require you to put attrib points on fast casting, all the other primary attributes, as far as I know, require you to allocate points to it to make the skills usefull to use.

Thats why I use collectr weapons. The Necro Cruel staff from outside Port Sledge:

Energy +10
11-22 (req. 9 Blood Magic)
Improves skill recharge of Blood Magic skills (20%)
Improves casting speed of Blood Magic skills (20%)

and thats without upgrades as well. I think this is much better than say some random gold I found which was:

Cane
11-22 (req. 9 [illusion I think])
Improves recharge of fire magic skills (14%)

collector weapons pwn

True, with my pyromancer I used the collectors staff from outside Ice Caves, same stats but with firemagicskills. (5 frigit hearts are required if I remember correctly)

you can upgrade collector staffs with wrapping and staffhead. In this way its possible to create a perfect staff for a reasonable amount of money.

Yeah, I use the Collector bow outside Augory Rock. Max Damage, 15% above 50% health, and I added Fiery and Fortitude mods. It's a little slower then my Half-Moon, but it's not a big deal with Tiger's Fury.

And yes, I agree. I constantly find gold and purple weapons that have absolutely no business existing, much less being dropped out of a chest I spent 600 gold on a key for. Though, in all fairness, sometimes the mods are decent for salvaging.

I've got to agree as well - a lot of the gold drops are complete and utter rubbish. I also agree that gold armour should only produce superior runes - the amount of times I've got major's from them is ridiculous, morteso as unless its a major vigor or Absorption it's worthess as the trader only pays 25g for a major, and getting a minor can be worth more.

It would be nice if the odds of matching mods were increased a bit. Rather than have it randomly chosen, make it 10-15% of being from the same attribute line, 35-40% of being from the same class, and only 50% from another class. That way someone looking for a weird wand can still find his death wand with +1 to protection, but odds are better that it is death or curses.

You don't have to be stuck with that bow. Right outside of Port Sledge, you can craft another bow with the properties of a flatbow - same fire rate as your Half Moon. The only thing is that it's when enchanted.. meh. I'd love to have one with +15% in stance, or just two bows with <>50% hp.
As far as gold items being useless, I whole heartedly agree. All my golds usually go to the npc for around 200g. I think the best implementation would be that if you've already unlocked an upgrade, the chances are dramatically lower that you'll get the same one again - this way you could actually unlock everything by doing PvE! Imagine that. The same concept should apply to runes. I want my superior absorbtion, damn it.
