Guilds-Why do they fight?

I don't have this game, but I've read about it and played all the old betas. Probably will get it, but I was wondering...

Is there a reason why human guilds are fighting each other?

That's a very good question. Unfortunately, the game does a very half-hearted job of explaining it. All they say is: "to settle arguments and gain greater influence."

Yeah, its about proving yourself over another, plus getting higher in the guild ladder rankings, among other things.

For domination of the ladder. We don't quite care what the roleplayers think of human vs human.

What else is there to do? Tyria doesn't have video games, y'know.

For power, for control, and because its not fun to play a game which promotes pacifism.

the story doesn't really bother to mention it in any satisfactory way (if at all) so...er... guess its just the usual power struggles you get when 2 or more human organisations get near each other

Coz dying has no consequences (unless you're a major character in the plot) so we might as well fight for fun.

LoL this is hilarious. No one has any clue besides some vague ideas. Dont ask questions son..just point straight and shoot.
