Farm outside ascalon city (post searing) you can get quite a few drops fast and just salvage things & earn the gold up pretty fast to buy all the armor, just a suggestion.

Edit: Also, keep in mind the more henchmen you bring the less drops & gold that go to you. It doesnt show the items that drop for henchmen, so you must assume that they get their drops and you can't see them. Just bring a healer hench if you can help it and you should do good all the way to regent/fort ranik/sardelic and just about up to piken. Hopefully this helps you somewhat.

up to piken??
we already did piken before we got to yak's.

we usually bring a healer, but she keeps getting killed all the time, so I think she's more of a liability.
we're checkin' out a couple of the new npc's at yak's ---- just peeked out the door, so far.

I got some $$ selling stuff to people in ascalon.
you can really make a decent buck by doing just what you said, if you feel like sitting in chat for a while.
