New to Guild Wars...technical question

Hello! I am considering purchasing Guild Wars, as my husband and I would love a game we could play together... But, with other battlenets (ie Diablo II) we cannot because we share a static ip address--our two computers are networked together to share internet--and battlenet requires a unique ip address per account (even though we each have a legit copy of the game). SO what I need to know about Guild Wars is....if we each have a copy of the game and therefore unique keys...but have the same ip address...will we be able to log on at the same time?

I doubt it. It would boot one of the two <whoever is on> with a net-err7 I think. You could try it first, download the client from Guildwars.com, sit through the updates, get an account, and log and try it...or you could simply just call tech support and ask. I recommend the latter.

Sorry if it wasn't the answer you wanted.

Thanks Actually, I've already submitted the question to their official tech support team..But they misunderstood what I was asking and thought I wanted to share one account (ie, one copy of the software) between 2 people.

We have cable, and my husband and I have no problem using our (separate) GW accounts on two networked computers.

Well then, if this is true, I highly recommend you get GW. It's such a friendly atmosphere if you get into a guild, and have friends you associate with everyday working through a "NON" Pay per monthly-moveable storyline.

Cynhounds...do you log on at the same time?

Shimus, I am very much looking forward to the online community aspect of the game.... In the good old days (hehe), I remember playing Trade Wars 2002 on BBS and via telnet...and the original Diablo battlenet... I made some good friends there as well.

Very good. To learn alot more before entering the game <incase you want to be prepared> I suggest you looking into the other subforums here. Alot of what you'll experience already has been posted about somewhere..and it lets you get real friendly with the whole layout/what to do..

My husband and I play together on networked computers. We have one external IP on DSL... no problems at all. You just have a router or gateway.

My friend comes around about.. each friday/saturday and brings his computer with him.

It's not a problem at all and we can play together just fine. Easiest way to find out would be running GW 2 times on one computer...

However, I've played Diablo aswell with this same friend and we had no problems going online together with this as far as I know. Might be the network settings we use.

Looking on the Guild Wars tech support page, I think it very well may be the router settings preventing us from using D2 battlenet at the same time. OR my computer is trying to tell me it's time for a new game since I beat D2 3 years ago and only resurrected it in order to play with my hubby since I'd inadvertantly insighted an interest on his part. lol

I've tried completely shutting off the firewalls and virus program on my laptop, opening the required ports manually....you name it...but what I saw on GW tech is not something we'd tried yet.

The answer is... yes! Guild Wars id's you not soley on IP address, but on the game's keys and log in email address as well. What fun is PvP whenever you can't directly talk to your guildmates?

Turns out...it was a router setting issue. I followed the direction on GW tech support for setting my router and now hubby and I can both log on to battlenet....so with a happy heart I can now go buy 2 copies of GW
