Guild Wars Stage Play
Kaeli Stormborn
University of the Philippine's Bahay ng Alumni was filled to the brim as over 1,500 tickets were sold in UP AME's biggest event ever. But, out of more than ten stage performances, the Guild Wars stage play emerged victorious. With a thunderous battle scene, an engrossing soundtrack and voice overs, inventive special effects, great costumes, and two fanciful dance numbers (one by the undead and one by the heroes), Guild Wars Skit took the prize despite other very impressive stage performances especially from several Naruto groups and X-1999.
I will try to post more pictures, especially of the battles, later on.

I gave the camera to my friend since we were performing the skit. It was very difficult for him to take pictures so the pictures aren't that great. He was struggling in the crowd that was pushing and shoving to get a good view of the action so a lot of the pictures came out of focus or too dark.
Here are some of the better ones I was able to fix up:
Lich Lord about to attack Ascalon City.
Heroes defending Ascalon from the Lich Lord's advance.
Heroes pouncing on the Lich Lord and his Necrid Minion.
Lich Lord and the Necrid pushing back the heroes.

If you remember this, you get a cookie. ^_^ this was from Pocketmancer Exe's comic thread...one of the most treasured comments to the series
(comment from the comic where H Chan dies, and asks for a rezz from the rangers (one says his pet has died, and all his skills are disabled...dont remember the other one tho =/)
not....sure on the answer....? heh

Here are some more pictures (taken by other spectators). Asked their permission and gave them credit in the picture themselves:
I love the burst of light from the Holy Strike and how the axe glows when the warrior attacks with Evicerate. You can find some more really good pictures here: http://photobucket.com/albums/v281/k...e%20ulit/?sc=6
Originally, there was supposed to be a Ranger but he was stuck buying his armor from Droknars so we had to hit Enter Mission before he could join up.
The truth is, his costume wasn't done on time. In the next stage play, if ever, the Ranger and Female Necromancer might be included as well.
I love the expression of one of the girls (stage people) near the base of the stage in the last picture. She was really into the action onstage. There were several videos taken of the event, but the audio was deafened by the crowd's reaction. They were screaming and cheering and laughing the whole time. They were really a wonderful audience.
Will probably dub over the video with the audio soundtrack that was used for the play. Unfortunately, a lot of people stood up in the middle of the performance to get a closer view of the action. Am hoping to receive a mostly unobscured video if possible.

Actually, there are a ton of pictures available, but I try to ask their permission before posting them in other forums as well as give them credit.
Am also waiting on the video. I heard the audio is crappy because of all the yelling and screaming in the venue, but, as long as the video is clear, I can always dub in the actual soundtrack complete with voices and special effects.

PS: The Monk said to tell you guys that that's her real hair and not a wig. I can attest to that since I was there

Ok, for us non theater majors, how is the armor constructed? What material most specifically? Plastic? Foam?

The people wearing the costumes are actually the people who made them except for the Mesmer who borrowed the costume from the Monk and the Necrid who had to substitute for the guy who was supposed to wear it last minute.
Because different people made the different armors, they're actually quite different in construction. Mine (the left-most in the original picture) was made from different kinds of foam-assisted rubber (the stuff they make rubber shoes or sandals from) covered with a stretch leatherette and painted over, the guy in black in the middle used the same rubber without the covering, a styrofoam hammer (which was designed to shatter on impact), and a plastic axe.
The Lich Lord (guy with the horns) is made from a steel frame with solidified adhesives that were formed and molded. The Necrid guy beside him is made from paper mache basically. Most of their weapons (and mine) are made from wood (to avoid hurting each other should an unfortunate swing sneak past the shield and armor) that has just been treated with some resin and painted over.
Btw, if you're curious, there just happens to be a picture of the Necrid guy without his helmet. This is what he looks like without his face covered:

ANet wouldn't really be spending that much money sending us to the Guild Wars World Championships in Taipei, Taiwan hehe. It's like a 2-hr plane ride from the Philippines. We're even in the same time zone
AMDG, the local distributor of Guild Wars, is actually asking us to do the stage play again. Have to ask the rest of the people though since we found out the hard way that 10 minutes of sword fighting and dancing in armor is actually quite exhausting. Plus, those things are no joke to lug around hehe.
