why are my chest items always the same???

I'm very frustrated. The last 18 (not an exaggeration) high level chests I've opened (sorrows furnace, grenths footprint, snake dance, desert, etc.) have been 10 wands, 5 staffs, and 3 offhand items. I'M A RANGER!!! ARRGGHHH!!! I haven't seen a gold bow from a drop or chest for months. Is there something I'm missing here? Is there something that makes chests give items for certain classes? What is going on here...this is WAY too many items in a row to be just a coincidence.

i've never had any bows from chests either..i either always get caster items or in FoW..chaos axes...thats it ...i've only ever seen one guy get a bow from a chest so far..

In my experience, some classes get a better drop rate on some items. My Warrior/Monk tends to get a crapload of bows/cestas, whereas my real life best friend playing as a Warrior/Ranger gets a crapload wands/staves. We don't know why; it just seems more randomly likely to drop those...It is odd. I should do an official study, but I'm too lazy at the moment.

From my experience (or bad luck) i rarely get drops or chest drops for the class i am playing...

Same here - my three characyers are Ranger, Ele and Warrior yet 80% of what I get are cestas, truncheons, canes, chakrams and staffs - normally poor ones. I've had 2 bows - both with worthless bonuses liuke dam,age v hexed or while hexed.

From what I've seen and heard, certain areas give certain items.

I can testify that farming griffons seems to yield warrior items almost exclusively, with a ranger item dropping very rarely. Swords mostly, with the occasional axe or shield. And I'm farming with a W/Mo, so I'm actually getting items that are potentially useful for the class. I don't recall ever seeing a caster item drop from griffons.

I haven't done it, but I've heard that farming hydras gives mostly caster items.

Similarly, I've heard that farming other critters yields armor (runes), etc.

the same happens to me, the last bow i got from a chest my ele opened.

I have never opened a gold bow from a chest. It doesn't seem to matter what class I play it is almost always a caster item or a rune. I do find that killing Gawls in whitmans is a good place to get gold bows though. I've gotten several from there...

Around Lions Arch on my elem all i find is raven staffs, not only for ele either, they arent bad staffs, but i just thought it was weird when i farmed there for 3 hours and all i got was raven staffs and gold......

Don't farm in the same area (go to other climate zones) the more your farm in the same region, the worse your drops gets. That may be why your not getting and gold drops.

i know were ur coming from, but i saw one man get a req 8 gold stormbow out of a chest in fow. So it is possible, just a small chance of gettting a bow from one.

If your in a group, don't be the first to open the chest If it's gold, then it'll be gold for everyone. If that is the case get it, usually for me 3rd works I got a rare chaos axe and rare fellblade from FoW Only once did i get a shitty item, that was when i opened it second...
