What class should I be.

Hey, Im new here just signed up, but I got a question on what class I should be. No im not asking what class is strongest or best. Im gonna put what I like to play as in video games and what im asking is you take into consideration what all i like and try to make it into terms of classes and maybe telling me what skill "chain" (? not sure exactly how skill system works, is it like "teching" up to the stronger ones like a chain, or is it you just choose which ones you want outta all of them.) to get. Alright so here goes.

-I usually like to be the fighter/warrior type
-I dont like to heavily rely on other curative mages to heal me (because I've learned that you cant really trust someone else to heal you unless you know them pretty well) so I would like to have a few weak-medium cure spells
-null the above requirement if there are easily accesable potions that i could use fairly quickly if my health runs low
-I like to use a well rounded weapon that is medium attack speed and medium damage, preferably sword but most of the time swords are fast and weak
-I would'nt mind a few attack spells if possible but not really required
-Not sure if this would be certain weapon or rune or magic or whatever but I would'nt mind healing a percent or amount of how much damage I give to the enemy
-Hmm, all I can really think of right now, other then that I like to be up front attacking melee but you can probibly figure that from that description

Sorry for any spelling or grammatical errors,
Thx in advance,
Blademaster

It sounds to me like you want to be a Warrior/Monk. It's a popular combo, for good reason...

Ok, thx, can you provide some insight as to how the skill system works? Also, are there going to be set charactor faces, or can you completely customize it? (Like having to have a set face even though i could change colors, or is it going to be i can choose hair to my back, or buzzed hair, hair color, skin color, body build, height, etc.)

Warrior/Monk... no question. This would give you access to whatever healing, stances, attack skills and weapon choice you could want. It's not a flashy or interesting build, but it has everything you could want.

Check out the skills here on the site and put something together. Remember, read the skill descriptions carefully... because they can be deceiving and misleading and downright strange in many of them. Blame the dev's... they'll be rewritten by release though, .

Search through the forums and the Guides/Articles that are available and make some educated choices. See what others are doing in the Builds Section.

Anyway, other than that, there are no potions or items like that in Guild Wars. Basically, as a warrior, you'll want Healing Signet if you want to heal yourself.

Swords are not "weak" in Guild Wars at all... You'll see a lot of Warriors running with Swords or Axes, as they are generally preffered to Hammers.

As for Life Stealing... you CAN find weapon upgrades that offer minimal life steal.. however, it's usually skills that will give you this. The Necromancer has a bunch of skills that use this... although a Warrior/Necromancer would look a lot different than a Warrior/Monk, usually.

In the end, it's really up to you. When you start playing, do whatever you want. You won't screw up your character and the game doesn't penalize for you for poor or misguided choices. It rewards you for being creative, so do your worst, :P.

Oh, ok thanks. How exactly does the skill system work is it like a "teching up" to the stronger skills or is it just choosing whichever I want as soon as I want it? Also, which of the sword, axe, or hammer is the most middle leveled of them? Thx again.

Basically, you find Skill Trainers in various cities/towns/outposts and you buy the skills from them. They cost some gold and 1 skill point. You get a skill point every time you level up and for doing missions (if I remember correctly).

Some skills are hard to find and are only available in a Skill Charm. Using a Skill Charm allows you to temporarily use that skill. Let's use a Poison Arrow Skill Charm as an example. Currently, I think it can only be found in Charm Form. Ok, once you have the charm of the skill you want, you'll need to find a Ring. If you are a Warrior Primary, you'll need to find a Warrior's Ring; if you're a Ranger, you'll need a Ranger's Ring, etc.

Let's say we have our Ranger's Ring already and someone just traded us the Charm of Poison Arrow. Now you can permanently learn the Skill if you put it into the Ring (Double Clicking on the Charm, I believe, and then clicking on the Ring... I've never done it personally, but it makes sense. It's how other things are done). Now we can use Poison Arrow whenever we please and for however long we want. Charms only last for 24 hours (Real Time).

This method is only for the more rare skills... generally, you can just purchase the Skill from a trainer.

As for Weapons... Well, the Sword and Axe are both one handed weapons and attack at the same speed... but the Axe has more of a variance in it's damage. And example of an axe would be 6-17, whereas a sword would be something like 11-15. Hammers are two handed weapons, so they attack slower but do more damage.

In the end, if you take the average of attacks, the Sword and the Axe do the same amount of damage... however, you don't ONLY look at the weapon, but the skills that can be used when you have these weapons. Axe, Hammer, and Swords all have their own Skill Line.

Skills as of right now are dependant on where you are in the game, either by location or by “experience” (more of what you character has come across in the game, see “Signet of Charming”). There is no Tech-tree so you do not necessarily need one skill before you can learn another.

Mind you none of this is set in stone – we’re still in beta testing which means all of this can change for a multitude of reasons.
