For those thinking of buying Guild Wars....
Elvisman2001
and haven't decided one way or the other or that have questions about the game, Gamespot posted a really good review of the game here:

They seemed to have liked it pretty well and it has gotten a 9.2 out of 10... If memory serves, WoW got a 9...

Apparently your memory doesn't serve too well.
I agree with pretty much everything in gamespot's review except for only giving music an 8 because it's amazing but it gets kind of repetitive...

WoW destroys GW in every way (other than graphics....I love the visuals in GW), IMO.

All i can say is getting ganged by 2 lvl 60 player's as lvl 10 is no fun. People literally spawn kill you till you get pissed and log off. Is it true that the maximum level in Guild wars is lvl 20 ?

GW is just a filler for me (a decent filler though). |

Explain? Filler would more be described in the context of waiting for the game to come out, if it's down from patching or something. As far as I know, WoW is running fine, unless you're reffering to the subsequant screw up with the honour system. |
As far as "filler", it means that I can play GW every once in a while without getting behind, since there is no power-leveling ( FWIW, I hate the level 20 cap and power-leveling the same). I play a lot of different games, and since I find GW to be a bit lacking in the depth department, I consider GW to be a filler between sessions of other games. I still like the game though. I guess I'm just not a "fanboy".

That's why I didn't say anything about you liking WoW over GW, that's your opinion and you're completely entitled to have it. Also that I've never played WoW so I'll never say anything good or bad about it.

I can see how WoWs tedieous little quests are much more indepth than GWs fantastic (and original) storyline.......................

bah... i refuse to play WoW any more. Waste of money. I have just as much fun with GW. And, I can take that 15 bucks a month and put it to better use. Sorry my memory didnt serve me too well... but still, .3 points ahead of GW isnt so bad........
Ehh... if anyone thinks WoW is deep... they must be used to swimming in a bath tub. To me... there isnt much difference in the "depth" between WoW and GW... and there are many more class combinations. Except for crafting... which I think WoW's crafting system stinks anyway compared to EQ2's crafting which is like a seperate game unto itself. Plus, I found WoW to be extremely unchallenging until level 60 and then I found it to be extremely boring with raids and all. I think GW is fine with the level 20 cap... the game isnt built around leveling and there is still PLENTY to do even once you reach it like obtaining skills and gear to improve your character. The PVP in GW decimates WOW also... combat in general decimates WoW and most other MMORPG games I have played. But hey, these are just my oppinions. If you like WoW more power to you. Some people like checkers over chess.

I was a lvl 60 Paladin, once i reached level 60 the game was pretty much over for me, raids and constant instances was really sad and unforfilling. I live in New Zealand and gamecards for WoW are $45.00, highly un-reasonable.
Gw is free and for such a great pvp, pve system plus great graphics to boot i personally put Gw into another spectrum of MMORG.
Company's make money from releasing the games, customers pay for the Internet (cable, adsl.. etc) why should we have to pay to play the game we just paid for 1 month ago?
My opinion is Gw has changed the face of gaming for the good, and Blizzard, SoE should follow suit.

The Devs already said they would add new races and such in 'subchapters'.
I played WoW once, and I didnt like it. Especially that you have to pay per month. The only thing really I found cool in WoW where the mounts.

I liked SWG's crafting system as well. I really liked EQ2's also.. I just thought it was poorly implemented but I liked the fact that you had to actually do something while crafting instead of just sitting back and waiting (EQ2's). I liked having to mash different buttons and such to complete the crafting attempt.

list other reasons other than the fact that you dont have to pay a monthly fee plz
im sure GW didnt get 9.0 because thers no fee

How about Awesome graphics, A REAL Central Plot with a PROPER story and missions. Great music. HUGE play area. Tons of quests and skills. Just for starters
Borealis
I had a choice to play one game or the other when GW came out, it's obvious now which one I chose. The killer for WoW is that new honor system they implemented, like others have said I don't talke kindly to being attacked by other people when I just want to play.
Between that, the monthly fees and the game IMO looks just plain ugly compared to GW killed it.

The review pretty much sums it up.
The combat, for one, is far more strategic than any other mmo I have played.
The graphics are out of this world.
Animations are fantastic.
Has a cohesive and followable plot... and actual story.
Has many fun and varied quests which, for the most part are very scripted. Menaing, a lot of stuff takes place during a quest like NPC interaction and stuff. And some of the quests I have had, actually have PUZZLES which is something sorely lacking from most MMO's.
The PVP is the best I have played... I would even say its right up there with any FPS I have played. Hectic and strategic as all get out.
And the cherry on top, is no monthly fee.
