when do assigned drops become unassigned?
Siren Danica
The other night I was doing the Sorrow's Furnace Orozar quest with a PUG of 8 (7 real players + henchman monk), and the boss Bortak drops his green Bone Staff, assigned to a player in our group. Apparently, the player didn't notice it drop, and we were in a pretty furious battle so no one had time to mention the drop either. Before the battle was done, we were all killed, but we resurrected quickly enough to resume guarding Orozar to keep him alive.
Still, the player didn't pick up the Bortak's Bone Staff, which, according to the latest price guide, is worth about 143K. But it was still assigned to the player so no one else could pick it up. The surprising thing is that we all talked about getting green items in the chat window before starting the quest, so you'd think every player would keep his eyes open, especially when we kill a boss...
My son was home from college for the Thanksgiving holiday, so he brought his pc in the den with me, and we were doing the quest together. I mentioned to him to keep his eye on the staff because the player hadn't claimed it yet. We all got killed and rezzed again, and this time the staff was unassigned, so my son picked it up, and gave it to me being the good son that he is.
I searched for the answer for this, and couldn't find it - when do assigned drops become unassigned?

Sometimes it's hard to see the greens due to player names being the same colour so they don't stand out unless your reading them.
Personally i would have said something to the guy when you where all dead to let him know it was there,(as i hope people would do for me if i didn't notice it) as there is plenty of time while waiting for the respawn.
Theres a time limit on the item eing assigned not sure how long though, also if the character disconnects the item becomes unassigned.

I probably would of told the guy, unless ofcourse he did anything stupid during the trip, in which case he should have gone to specsavers.

As for when they become unassigned, I believe there is a time limit or if they drop group/disconnected <duh>. I usually always run back all over FOW before I leave <usually after everyone left> and find remains, hammers, and such. It's cool to get extra stuff that others left behind, once someone left a shard behind..all mine =)

Normally, I think I'm a nice player - I have given away plenty of dyes, weapons, and materials to other players. I can't really explain why I was greedy and selfish that night.
I will try to go back and make it right, and find the player and give him/her the weapon since I don't really need it.

Keep it for yourself. If he wasn't paying attention and his GREEN item became unassigned then too bad for him.147K- nice pickup.

I almost missed getting Malinon's Shield once.. we were fighting a huge group and the moment Malinon died, the shield was out. Thinking that i never would get something that good, I start to get more groups aggro. Than another player mention "hey dude you forgot your shield"
So i pick it up... same goes with Flint Fleshweaver... I almost missed it but another player told me about the drop. Is it me or these green drops seem to be not shown on the ground. And you have to either check the text box to see whats drop or pin-point if a drop is green or not.

He is asking how long does it take to unassign.
I count about 3-5 Minutes. Though without a stopwatch going..Who knows.

I had 2 drops this last week and didn't see either one, but my son playing on the PC beside me did. It must be the green blending in with the character names, not a good color choice on Anet's part.

I always hold down the Alt Key after a big fight. Any items for you are highlighted. I do this in hope of actually getting something. Unfortunately I rarely do get anything good. Stone Summit Badges, those I get.

No longer than that. Minumum of 6 minutes and I have seen up to 8 at least before they become unassigned. Greens are hard to read though lol almost a light mossy green color.
