Guild Wars model viewer
Maxiemonster
I'm not sure how many players here also play World of Warcraft, but that game had a model viewer. The idea is basicly to take the model/skin files from the game, and link them to a small sized program (1.2MB for the WoWmodelviewer). It's a great idea, and this way you can preview your character without having to buy them first, just to find out you shouldn't have bought the damn armor.
I'm not sure GW is more protected for these things, since WOW also has functions like addons, that aren't against the rules, maybe this model viewer was easy to make for WOW, and it's hard for GW. But if not, I'd love to see this program. If it's already out there somewhere, please tell me, and if not, maybe it's a nice idea for a programmer with alot of spare time

I thoroughly agree. Linking to a separate program would probably be far easier than a whole previewing system inside the game, and would also enable you to perhaps have these model files saved so you could can preview them again if needs be...but yes, and on another note I'm pretty sure the devs must be doing something about a preview thingy.

Some High-end modeling programs come with a way to save your projects as either a regular file or a .exe. Saving it as an Executable file allows you to open up the drawing/ 3d model in a viewer (meaning you dont have to have the software to be able to see the file).
Ive never played WoW or seen this viewer thingy, but somehow It probably works simular to other model viewers. Just a thought...

I thought it is more of a user made program that extract the 3d model file out of their program/file. I played with a FFX model viewer that someone made, which extract the model out of the PS2 game. (very impressive)
Not really see the reason why Anet would do that for us.... but why not.

I agree. These types of programs are quite handy and i used one for some mapping i did in call of duty.
But another idea might be for ArenaNet to just give us better pictures at the armourer.
I have bought two 15k sets for my characters which have turned out to be so ugly, lol.

So am I...lol maybe this thread is gonna get turned into something else...

It probably wouldn't be "too" hard for Anet to do. They already have a preview for making characters, so how hard would it be to add the rest of the armors and pack it into a .exe?

Forgot I made this thread, though, I really hope ANet makes something like this, I love the one for WOW, and I'd love the one for GW just as much!

This is not thread Necromancy...
During Gaile's party, I took the opportunity to get a good look at the creatures in LA, and for the first time I got a good look at them and all the detail/animations the artists put into them.
I would love a viewer that would allow us to look at these guys, and their animations.

nice idea, make it like the dye window. because the tiny icon on the list is too small to actually know how the armor looks like /signed

I second that. The artwork of some creatures is simply stunning.
However, being a ranger, I'm all zoomed out during gameplay. It's a pity I can't enjoy the full details, just because I'm too far away from the creatures.
If any program would allow me to extract those models, I can finally see what I'm killing
Allowing me to extract the model of my characters out of the game would be nifty too.

it would be awesome to be able to extract the models !
I can put them in my sims 2 game.

I think that GW uses Granny(TM) tecnology to make the models.
It would be great to be able to start a an external model viewer and set any possible combination before getting things ingame.
It would be also great to make Wiki galleries.

This would also be a great help to any modders out there. They'd be able to make any alterations without having to log in and out of the game a dozen times.
Operative 14
It would be especially handy for those of us who need character renders for graphics!

I have it. . .not only does it let you preview all the skins and such but it is GREAT for doing videos. . .I just finished doing a WOW bellydance video using it. You can view each separate emote and some of them have different partsd and you can break them down into their individual steps. .such as the dances. I was just wondering too if Guild Wars had such a program but I am guessing now that the answer is no. . .oh well. . ..(I may send my video into blizzard and see what they think of it!)

I see many people asking for the armor they want to see and they are getting it.
Edit: Actually, there's other useful things people can do if they can take the model/skin file besides previews so I take back what I said earlier.
