Protection Monk Help

I play a healing Monk but would like to be able to play protection as well [in PvE.] I have been using the necromancer secondary a lot lately so I was thinking something Boon Protectish. I do not want to reinvent the wheel, I just would like something that is tried and true.

Attributes: 12 Divine, 12 Protection, 10 Blood Magic?

Offering of Blood (elite)
Reversal of Fortune
Mend Ailment
Divine Boon

But what more? Some of these?

Aegis
Guardian
Protect Spirit
Contemplation of Purity
Shielding Hands

Please give me some advice on making this. And if someone would tell me how they use the skills I would appreciate it—as I do not understand much about Protection Monks and would like to learn to be effective. Thank you.

In PvE I wouldn't bother with both Aegis and Guardian. Since you are playing a Boon Protector just take Guardian. I wouldn't bother with protective spirit unless you are going somewhere where there is guaranteed spike-type damage (UW has high damage mobs for example). Contemplation of Purity is great in small arena for self preservation, but in PvE unless you are in FoW (Spiteful Spirit mobs) I personally do not bother with hex removal. Since you are a Boon Protector I recommend max or near max Divine Favor with high protection and the rest in blood. Something like:

16 Divine Favor
11 Protection
8 Blood

Divine Boon
Reversal of Fortune
Guardian
Mend Ailment
Signet of Devotion
Offering of Blood
Divine Healing/Shielding Hands
Rebirth

Shielding Hands is good in PvE. In places with mass degen like Thunderhead I like a Heal Party type effect and even though Divine Healing has a nasty recycle it is your only Heal Party for Boon Prot. Since this is PvE you want a res, this is expected of monks in PvE.

In PvP skills like Protective Spirit, Contemplation of Purity, ally hex removal, etc., are more useful. You likewise don't necessarily want to bring a res sig in PvP as a heal or prot monk.

How to play: Cast boon. If at any time you don't need boon, remove it so your energy regens normally (pauses while travelling). Use Reversal when someone gets near half life. Use Guardian on any target that seems to be the main focus of mobs. With Boon Guardian will heal some as well. Use Signet of Devotion when you aren't under alot of pressure, this will help you maintain a good energy supply. If offering of blood is available use it any time after you are below the energy it can return. Save mend ailment for when someone is blind or cripple or another condition prevents them from functioning, with Boon you get a nice heal off it. Divine Healing has a nice range but try and be near and center of your party when using.

Same build here, except I use 15 DF, 11 Protection, and 10 blood. Instead of Mend Ailment I use Mend Condition, and bring Contemplation instead of healing hands for myself.

Based on my experiment, RoF seems like a good spell to use just before doing a emergency heal. Because with RoF you are absolutely certain that the next nasty hit will be 'reversed', while you cast the emergency heal.

Ideally, yes, but the thing with boon protection builds is that you'd be wasting the -2 energy in most cases.. (talking about pve here)
That's the bad thing about it, a lot of times the target doesn't need the benefits of RoF/Guardian, etc, but they get it anyway, and you throw a little bit of energy away.

I've had great success with shield of regeneration as my elite. This works well in both PvE and PvP as it gives an extra 40 armor as well as +10 health regen. In places where theres a lot of health degen, bringing this and healing breeze counteracts the degen pretty well.

Another option to Boon + Offering of Blood is Aura of Faith. Aura of Faith is amazing for a Healer (not so much Protectioner). Try max Divine Favor + Aura of Faith (on you) + Healing Touch. Unbelievable spike healing.

My typical "active" prot build (as opposed to barrier/bond) is something like this:

Prot 16
DF 15

Signet of Devotion
RoF
Divine Healing
Mend Condition
Rebirth
Protective Spirit
Shield of Regen {E}
Remove Hex

This prettymuch covers your bases. SoR covers barrages of minor damage attacks and degen, condition and hex removal, prot spirit for spike, RoF for "oh ----, that person's about to die!"

I enjoy myself using Divine Boon, then Aura of Faith, THEN Healing Touch.

Good spike healing for a target other ally is Divine Boon, Aura of Faith on the target your healing then 'Heal Other' them.
