I've never been able to do the same thing either but I can at least tell you how to attach an image that people can just click on - similar to an email attachment.
1. Hover mouse over item you want to capture - hit "printscreen" button on your keyboard. You should see a message in chat log saying "printscreen saved to guildwars blah blah".
2. Open your PAINT function (if using MS Windows), then file/open/guildwars/screenshots - and choose the correct image.
3. You'll see a full image of what your printscreened but you only want the lil box that says Fellblade Dmg11-22 req 9 sword, so hold left click and drag around that lil detail box - right click/cut.
4. File/Open/New - "do you want to save changes to BMP022?" <-no. Clean window in paint opens, right click anywhere and "paste".
5. File/Save As - choose a place to save it, you can save it in the GW screenshots if you want to, name the file (i.e. Auction) and change the file type to JPG (makes it smaller than BMP)
6. Come to SELL forums, new thread - enter description & auction rules, then click the lil paperclip symbol, this should bring up a window that allows you to browse your pc for appropriate attachment.....find it where you save it and click upload.

You need to host your image somewhere else if it's too big. All those big pictures are being hosted on imageshack.

Is your image in JPG format? Are you trying to squeeze too many smaller images into one image?
You can separate them, say you have 20 items for sale just make two diff JPGs of 10 and attach both.
BMP-bitmap is too lare so you have to save it as jpg to condense it. Also while in paint you can shrink the white arear around your images and that tends to help size as well.
