To whom this may concern, heahehhwerhewe

Hokay,
There are,
-no signatures
-no arcade
-no 'custom titles' You guys know what I mean
-Threads and posts
and I say, "Sure, I'm fine with that. I could go on without that stuff..."
BUT
*Words start cracking up*

I remember there was a time when I could upload animated avatars. I loved being able to see this everytime I logged on...

Slide one:
LEEERROOOROROYYY!!
Slide two:
JENKINS!!
Slide three:
*Picture of Chicken*

It gave me my zany personality.

Now you guys say that we can 'express' ourselves in that little bar on the side, which includes,
-Avatar
-Location
-Character names
-Guild
-Profession
-and so on...

Why can't I express through animation of my avatar, the only place where I can put a picture.
Instead of,
...flat...emotionless...text...

Please change the old avatar rules back, i.e. the use of uploading animated avatars.
In expressive terms, let us have avatar freedom!

I got some animated avatars in the garage and I wanna bring em out.

So if the Admins would be so kind enough to do this request... it's not much.

Thanks for reading my post. Have a nice day.
For those who just scroll down to see the point or don't understand it at all, here's what you've been waiting for.

-Allow animated avatars... and that's it.

Chris,

Animated Avatars require more bandwidth, right now we are trying to optimize these forums to be fast-loading and decrease any downtime. These past few weeks we have seen tremendous results with only a few glitches, we will not be doing anything to jeopardize that. While I can certainly understand your desire to express yourself and customize your avatar by animation, I think I would hear more screams to the contrary if it affected the forums performance.

I was starting to think that you guys don't even look at the site feedback forum

I know that animated avatars take up bandwidth, and I know you guys are trying you best at making this forum a better place to post. Good job on the update by the way.

But,
I see a few people around with animated avatars that uploaded it before you guys made the change to not allow it anymore. It doesn't seem fair. I also believe that not a lot of people used animated avatars. Don't quote me on that one.

I understand though, if you guys don't want change it back. I mean, why take the risk? It might end up like a shiznit in the middle of an alley of a shoot-out.
Like they always say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Will you be able to allow animated avatars in the near future? When?

Thanks

I support Chris and his ideas. I believe that avatars are a means of expression and that we should be able to have anyone we want. We have no signatures so an avatar is our last outlet. And Chris is right when he says it isn't fair. Anyway that is just how I feel, even though I prefer avatars like my own.

Guillaume, basically, here's what Inde said, in 5 words: "Animated avatars = bandwidth. Bandwidth = money." So, I like guru being free, and existing, so I'll take my static avatar and be happy. Also, if they're coding well, the "non-custom" titles take much less space than custom ones would.

Send gwg money, lots of it, and you'll have your wish

Of course... you could send it directly to me, but then you might not get your wish..

ehg. life isn't fair. so the admins should track down everyone with an existing animated avatar... I wouldn't want to pay them hourly for that, but I can buy the first pot of coffee for them to stay awake while they do it....

static avatars look just as nice as animated avatars if the design's right. And preventative maintainnance keeps things going... before any problems occur... so thank you, admins

i think that animated avatars would be nice, with some limitations. obviously.

i'm not techno expert, but maybe a 500kb maximum size...i'm sure people would find something to fit in there.

The current limit per avatar is about 20kb.... 500kb per user means you need to load roughly 10megabyes per -page- of forum topics. That'd kill the bandwidth faster than someone spilling coffee on the server

- Animated gifs don't take up that much space! Only about 2kb per animated avatar in my files, it's not that much. I feel the posters above me are exagerating the size and the bandwidth wastage...

- Not everyone uses animated avatars... heck before the change, I saw about 5 people with animations. But I don't blame you with that reasoning though. After all, I do fill the pages up really fast.

My current avatar is at the 16kb mark. But it's really huge!

I would love it if you guys would allow animated avatars under the 20kb. Just allow the animation, please.

Yes, Inde I remember what you said earlier...

I don't disagree, if you can find one under 20k, sure, you should be able to use it. I was just pointing out that 500kb is a bit high for the max limit

Well, my point is that we aren't allowed to use animated avatars.*PERIOD*

if regular avatar limit is 20k, just limit animated ones to 15k or lower and you'd be ok

Actually, I think the only reason we don't allow the animated ones is because the settings were changed when we switched to vB 3.5, and as Inde said we don't want to change a minor setting and then watch the forums slow down to a crawl.

So that means to moving pictures???
I feel as if my whole life in these forums just died...
-no arcade
-no sigs
-Avatars are 'nerfed'

What is there left to work with?
Look at my location... I'm traveling.
The only thing that can keep me alive is my quirkyness. And even that is fading away.
