I heard that every 6th month there will be a new exspansion pack for guildwars.

Would that cost money or is it free if you allready own the game?

It will cost money. Significantly more than US$ 20.

so lets say it will cost $30
and one is comming every 6th month,
this means I acculty means I pay $5 every month for playing the game.

so the game isent without a monthly fee

unless ofcourse you dont buy them and only play on that one or two server who will be running the old version.

You will have to buy the expansion pack, just like you bought guild wars. But, the monthly fee should remain the same-however, there will be constant updates, as well as the expansion pack-the expansion pack will just have big ones, eg new classes

i think you should rephrase that, first off we dont HAVE to buy the expansions and the monthly fee should stay the same because there is non and never will be.

There is only one 'server', and it will be like that in the future.
For example, if I buy expansion 1 and 2, and you buy 2 and 3, we can still play together the original game and the areas in the second expansion.

How much will Guild Wars cost? How much will additional chapters cost?

Guild Wars will be priced at a comparable cost to other first-tier PC games. The subsequent chapters of Guild Wars will also be comparably priced in relation to other games.
I'm curious what specific type of games they are comparing it to: another 1st tier game will be around $50, an MMO will be around $45 (3 months supscription @ $15/month) and an expansion would be $30.

Am I required to buy the expansion packs to continue to play Guild Wars?

No. Every purchase you make in the continuation of the Guild Wars saga will be your choice. If you purchase expansion packs you will gain access to new regions of the world, new skills and abilities, new items, new professions, and much more. If you choose to not purchase a chapter, you will still be able to play the chapters of Guild Wars that you own, and you will have common areas in which you will be able to play with and against your friends who have purchased the other chapter(s).

All "servers" (worlds) will run the same "version", but if you haven't bought the expansion, you will not have access to all areas or professions. You will be able to play with the people with expansion packs in the old areas. Of course, they will tend to be exploring the new areas, at least in the beginning, so there will be a pressure to buy.

NOTE

these are NOT expansions but new CHAPTERS which will have content equal to the original game and be priced accordingly.

ABOUT US 50 DOLLARS/CHAPTER (not 30 US for an expansion)

still a wonderful bargain

Wow, hadn't thought of that. So basically if i want to explore everything in a year, i'll have spent $150 or so? Didn't plan on that...

What if they release a new profession in expansion 3 that is not in 2. Will someone who is that new profession be able to play in the same area as someone without the third expansion?

NOT 150 but 100

50 now 50 6 months about and 50 6 months after that

about 150 for the initial 12 months than just the chapters at about 100/year

remember you are getting a full games worth of new content not just an expansion

SERVERS

anybody will be able to play together in any chapters they have in common

I'd expect the list price to be below the original game, since even though the content is doubled, they have said no words that the game engine will also be new.

Yes, people with a new profession will be able to play with and (against!) people without the expansion, as long as it is in one of the old areas. This means that a guild where nobody have the expansion will be at a disadvantage, as they will have a hard time countering strategies enabled by the new professions. So even though individual players will stay competive, I doubt that is true for guilds.

i hope you are right but they have the entire upkeep of the game, equipment, paychecks, bandwidth, plud the new content will be much larger than an expansion.

besides they have said on the site they were not expansions and would be priced higher than expansions.

$50 seems a little much to me, i think 30 would be very reasonable.

in that case why not the original game for 30 dollars?

30 is for expansions not a whole new games worth of content
