FoW armor-debate
Garumn
Should i get it? Ive got around 10 ectos and 10 shards at the moment, and I play around 2 hours GW each day-already played around 400 hours. So Ive got 15k Drakescale armor dyed all black, and nice weapons. Now should i dedicate my time to get that FoW armor or should i just save up my money for Chp.2 armor(possibly not SO xpensive as FoW) for my future Assasin?(the only profession that i seem to like in GW:P).Waht do you think? Is Fow rmor a waste of money?Im mainly a PvE player, and seem to get convinced that Fow armor is quite a waste of preciuos gold...

Depends on if you care about looks. Personally to me everyone looks the same in same, if you did get FoW armor you're find no one will really care anyway.
The collector armors are more uncommon and looks better if you ask me
In anycase I'd keep the goods or sell them.
I'm saving all my money for chapter 2, never know what goodies there will be there.

There will probably be armour in chapter 2 that will cost what fissure armour costs. Maybe since Fissure armour is in Balthalaars realm and is spiky and evil, dwaynas will have some angelic looking armour?
However, you should ask yourself. Say you want to get it for energy storage. Is druid armour that bad that you have to get fissure? If you want it for cold, is Frostbound that bad? The 15k armours are a luxury. The fissure set is an indulgence. I already have 15k Druid, Frostbound and Drakescale. Another set is going to give me inventory trouble.
Personally, I'm not bothering with fissure because none of them look like armours worth the time and effort you need to put into getting them. I'm waiting to see what chapter 2 gives us.

Thats waht Im gonna do! THx for your replies, i hope they ll intrdouce say 30k armor in Chp.2 or something like this, but spedning millions on Fow is just a waste of money and time

If you're saving up for FoW armor because that's all that's left to do in the game, it's time to look for a new game.

Unless you already have what you need for fissure armour, I would council against it. Just read War and Piece in the time you would otherwise spent trying to get the ecto's, take up sowing, learn to play an instrument or get drunk with friends.
Rancour
Hmm, I was saving up for it for my warrior. Only the leggings and the boots but now, since I read this, I'd rather wait for chpt. 2.
Thanks people, you just stopped me from wasting time on fissure armor.
And my warrior looks great anyway.

Heh yeah, i was considering FoW armor for my warrior, but now I think I will also save up for chap2.
Besides, I've already got a warrior with mixed 15k armor and a ranger with 15k druid

I would have to say - don't bother. If you've already got 15k armour, you should stick with that for now. FoW armour would be a waste of cash given that the expansion will be out in a matter of months. I'm saving up all of my money now for that, especially as there'll be more characters and slots available.
Plus in my opinion a lot of the FoW armour looks crap anyway - don't be a fashion victim!

I agree. Now is not the best time to buy fissure. Ecto prices are high and with ch2 close(ish) you would be better to save for Ch2 then decide..

my advice to u is to farm ur ectos if u want fow. i'm saving my ectos for either necro armor or the new chars if the fow version looks good.

Your answer is contained in your own question. You say:
" future Assasin?(the only profession that i seem to like in GW:P)."
So it would be nuts to spend the gold for fow armor on a character you don't favor. And since the character you believe you like won't be available until Chapter 2, well ... it's a no-brainer to wait for Chapter 2.

I was saving up my money for FoW but had the itch to go shopping recently and bought 2 gold bows, a green shield and staff >.> <.< >.> Im still collecting shards and buying ectos when i see the right price. My plan is to get at least 1 FoW set before March.
As a guild leader, i find that i NEED to have money to support my fellow guildmates...thats the ultimate gold sink right there.

Having seen warrior (male at least) fissure, I won't be saving up for it personally for my war. It's just not as visually appealing as 15k plate imho, and since there are no stat difference makes it pointless to save/spend money on. It's purely down to personal taste/vanity, same with drok-15k-fow since the stats don't change. I'm saving for whatever comes up in the expansion that might be worth buying...

I got a FoW armor for my (female) Mesmer. It took about 3 months of farming gold and the occassional UW run for that extra Ecto. I am quite a GW addict and the hours spent for gaining that armor didn't bother me that much (as a matter of fact I enjoy farming to a certain degree). If you are more the casual sort of player, there might be more interesting things to do. Also I think that it some FoW sets look just great while others are less nice.
My 2 cents:
1. Mesmer (Female): By far the coolest looking armor in the game. Yes, I farmed those 3 months for getting it.
2. Necro (Female): Looks very cool as well. Definitely worth getting.
3. Warrior: Looks nice. But not really a "must have". Other Warrior sets are just as nice.
4. Monk: Looks nice, but it's not THAT different from the other monk sets. Not really worth getting if you'd ask me. But I'd take one for free.
5. Ranger: Don't know why anyone would want to get that. Looks plain and quite unspectacular. Hard to tell from other Ranger sets, too. Nothing special, really.
6. Elementalist. FoW set is way uglier than any other armor for eles. I wouldn't even buy it if someone gave me the Ecto for free. My ele would probably kill me if I'd replace her ultra cool 15k aeromancer set for an FoW "ele platemail".
So I guess it's a matter of taste after all...
The basic questions might be:
If you can answer all three with a clear "yes", go for it

Lol I decided to sell all my ectos then and save up some money for my Assasin and new Chp.2 stuf.FoW armor is an ultimate waste of time+money-if u want an unique armor get urself a 15k one, or wait for the hopefully new ones from Chp2.

So far from fow armor. Still getting all my 15K goodies. Think I'll save some gold for chapter 2.
I've seen fow armor and i'm not really impressed for all the effort it takes.

If I had the money I would surely get it, but I put it off for weapons, runes, getting 20% rockmolders and saving up for chapter 2 first than an armor that will be there forever.
Dont rush anything, if you find the time ripe then start hoarding up cash unless you want to spend 2k hours farming ecto in the UW ; ]

I got FoW armor for my mesmer minus the gloves to save some money.
FoW helm for my warrior since I do not like the whole armor.
I was thinking of getting it for my monk but thought I'd better save the money for chapter 2. So I just got her 15K wanderer instead which is very cool looking and not a lot of monks have it.
So it depends on you, but I have a friend that got FoW armor for their female ranger and he does not get many PMs as he gets when he is playing his mesmer with fow armor. I think not a lot of people notice the ranger for since its looks abit close to the collector armor.

I went for fissure armor for my monk, because I like the look and because it gave me a goal to work for.
I haven't had a single positive comment about it (a few "why did you waste money on FoW armor?" comments), but I don't care - I bought it for ME, not for everybody else in GW.

i had my heart set on getting a full set of fissure for my warrior for a while...then, last night, i was at Augury and saw a guy with a full set of warrior fissure...
of course, i had seen the armor before, but had never spent much time studying the look of it...i gotta say, i'm not that impressed...yeah, it's different, but the details kinda suck...from a medium distance you can kinda see some detail, but up close it looks really smudged...i'm thinking i'll save my $$ for Chapter 2...

I would rather spend my money on a perfect modded weapon than fow armor. fow armor is a waste of money. To spend 1.5 mill+ and have the same stats as normal droknars armor is stupid. I admit some fow armor looks pretty cool, but certainly not worth the money or even half the money.

For those who think this is stupid - don't worry I agree - and likely Chapter 2 will bring some really terrific armor and you'll have the last laugh as I wander around, a 59-year-old stuck with a 13-year-old psyche, in my too expensive armor.

[off topic]
it makes me remember a question i asked to a dev (it may be voxy voo... he was a necro anyway) a few days after the release:
*at the temple of the ages*
Sendai: "Is that normal that there's no map for Dwayna, lyssa, Melandru ?"
Dev: "Sendai: Those maps will be here soon"
(that was at least 5-6 months ago)
guess they changed their plans
[/off topic]
Concerning the FoW armor: if i were you i'd mix some armor parts, pick one from the fow, one from the collector etc. and try to put a nice mixed dye on this. This way you'll have a (sort of) unique armor of your own. You shouldn't get the fow armor because it's expensive, you should get it because you like the skin.

my question about fissure is this:
Why doesn't it have better stats??...i mean, if you're gonna spend an ungodly amount of time/effort/$$ on it, shouldn't there me at least SOME sort of benefit other than looks?
that's what's always puzzled me about droks/15K/fissure armor...it would make a lot more sense if it was, say (for warriors):
Droks - 80-85AR
15K - 90-95AR
Fissure - 100-105AR
then there would at least be a point to getting fissure over droks...

you don't need fow armor
you want it ? lol noob you don't need it
be like me, have gold from (old farming/tricking noobs/ ....) and buy also uncustomized weapons (15>50 dragon sword, fellblade maybe) with low req of course, even if you use 16 in sword to deal godly damages.
lolol you need 10k in the game, to buy collector items to have weapons and armor max stats.

The only real reason I see for Fissure armor is this:
After you've played 4 characters all the way through the game, and there's still months to go before the next chapter - it gives you something to work toward to still keep you interested in the game.
That, or incentive to go buy gold off eBay so you can look uber-1337. *shrugz*
I like my first thought.
Do you need it? Nope - but do you need 100k in storage either? Nope again. It's just something to work toward....

Eh.. I want to get Obsidian armor for my Necromancer (Scar pattern set). Why? Because I'd rather look like a freak with spikes coming out of me and weird clothing than run around in lame-looking scars in my underwear.
Same reason why I want to get Obsidian Monk Tattoo pants.
But.. It's basicially impossible. I've only gotten 3 Globs of Ectoplasm ever. And I still have them. It's extremly hard to get at least one Glob every run now, or even every run-in-a-while.

At the risk of stating the obvious, I'm gonna do it for the kiddies since no one else has bothered...
The concept is not new, it is called a Gold Sink. No different than the dwarven ales, the 15k armors, or anything else you can spend your gold on uselessly, and to a lesser extent "godly" weapons and mods, like a 19% mod vs a 20% mod and the magnitude of difference in asking price. For some reason, people think because something is expensive, it automagically has to be better. Even after time after time of being told otherwise. The idea that a set of Fissure armor indicates to the rest of the world that you are a better player is just out loud laughable. It appeals to a side of you that is willing to suspend disbelief, appeals to your vanity and senses. It doesn't have to make sense and the intrinsic value is solely what you place on these items.
A set of fissure armor would be completely useless when compared against a set of similar 15k or Droknar armor when you consider what you could do with that amount of gold (opportunity cost). However, if your self esteem can be purchased (and relatively inexpensively, really, if you look at the overall picture) with virtual gold, why wouldn't anyone do it? Just realize that not all Fissure armor wearing characters are being played by a good player and vise versa. If anything, it just tells me that person either
1. Spent a lot of time farming (months, literally)
2. Exploited the ectoplasm price reset (ectos for 100g anyone?)
3. Bought some gold cheaply from ebay ($5.00 for 100k last I checked)
None of these reasons tell me that they will actually be good players because not even solo-farming does a good team player make. All of them do tell me that there's probably some self esteem issues that should be worked out. At the minimum, a money management issue! :P
And a definte NO on FoW for my ellie. It'd be worse than getting a bad haircut. At least that will eventually grow out.

I got a fissure helm for my warrior but only because it looks nice with full dragon dyed black. The only other fissure pieces or sets that seem worth it are male or female mesmer fissure and ele fissure.

I, personally, don't mind at all when players have the FoW armor, I respect them for the fact that they want to spend so much money in the armor.
I have nothing against the armor, it's in the game and it should have the purpose to be bought.
But I can't stand n00bs who think they are better then me because they have the FoW Armor and I have not (no, I don't have it, and I'm not planning to spend my money on it)
So much for my first post :P

I bought FoW armour for my ranger purely because I wanted Druid's armour for the energy boost, but absolutely hate the look of 1.5k/15k druids as it looks like a dress with sticks stuck on your arms/legs. The only other ranger armour I liked was studded which I used till i could afford fissure, but it never really had the stats I wanted. I'm not bothering with fissure for my warrior and ele as I like the 15k dragon warrior and 1.5k hydromancer stuff better.
Yes, I could have spent the gold on that godly perfect weapon - but whats the point in spending 100'sk on a 15% damage weapon, when a 14% one will only lose on average .3-.5 points of damage against high level stuff and at most 2.5 points of damage (from a 250 point damage shot) so the difference is barely noticiable? Same with paying over the odds for a +30 health grip, when +29 is a hell of a lot cheaper.
At least with the fissure I'm looking at it everytime I play, whereas my 14% always bow looks the same as a 15% perfect one.
Any money from now on I'm saving for chapter 2 and Assassin armour - when I'll go for the one I like the look of best.

FoW armor is nice in PvP It hides wich armor you have equiped style from enemies! :O Damn, I want this!

To me, it's rather simple - you have money. You can do three things with it:
1. Save it for the expansion.
2. Spend it on items you can use now.
3. Save it and try to build up enough to buy fissure armor.
I'm definitely in the #2 camp, and will likely be in the #1 camp over the next few months, as I've obtained almost everything I need functionally to be happy. I would expect (although it may be errantly so) that the price of fissure armor will decrease substantially after the expansion if there are many new armor sets, especially if an "uber" one exists.

I think some of this debate is kinda silly...
Personally, for me I want to get fissure armor. Why? Not for status or anything else - but after playing 4 characters all the way through, and with months to go before new content, it gives me a goal to still play for until then.
I sure don't care about status or antyhing else. I just recently got my first set of 15k armor, and put it on my necro. Not because I wanted to show off, I have no reason to impress anyone - but because I thought it looked good, and I spend more time looking at my character than anyone else does....
