You could walk, but honestly, do the mission. It's faster, safer, you get a skill point and more exp.

But if you wanna be brave, go ahead, there's nothing stopping you except from the fiends of North Kryta Province.

Had the same problem last night (this morning ) just before it was time to call it a night.
I'm generally a die hard solo player in most mmo's (well, that means plus henchmen in this game with those insane and very fun encounters) so I went on my merry way to Lion's Arch with a group of henchmen. I saw the gates and thought "wow, that was easy" - only to find myself being sent off chasing more undead in the swamps. Let's just say that henchmen are a bit too thick to pick up on when they are standing around in poisoned water .

Not sure I can actually manage this with henchmen barring pure luck - it seems close to impossible to draw the ranged mobs out of the water before the henchmen charge in.

Well, guess I might as well go ahead and try this whole grouping thing - afterall I was expecting to sooner or later with a heavy focus on PvP in the later parts of the game. Can't say my fairly brief experiences with pick up groups in other games have been all that great - a lot of people generally seem to show around half the common sense of the henchmen AI in this game .

I'm thinking of taking the long hike around through the northern province just to get to Lion's Arch, but if it's filled with large swamp encounters it may not be any easier with henchmen.

The walk is very easy... took me about 10-15 minutes. No poison swamps to kill all your henchman in that route.

I was very nervous when I started this quest lol...

After reading all the horror stories on the forums. But said what the hell and tried it with henchmen anyways. I must have got really lucky, pulled it off and all my NPC's were alive at the end.

Glad that mssion is over with!

I found walking much easier. From the gates, head north, then west to find a zone. Pushing through the hordes of mergoyles and bog scale blighters is the hardest part of the journey, but not too difficult. Once zoned, head south through the bog. I had a monk, put mending on myself, and just ran through without fighting the masses of scales without problem. My warrior also had an easy time running through the bog with sprint and endure pain. If you want to fight the scales, they aren't all that difficult.

On a side note, the mission can be hard if you don't use tactics at the end. Friends and I tried at least a half dozen times until we got through the last battle.

I tried about 5 times last night to make it through the mission to Lion's Arch. I had the same problem with the swamp and getting pommelled by multiple enemies at once ending in our destruction. Why do the NPC's stop at the top of the hill...once we stop the ones coming up the hill, is the mission considered over?

I tried the mission with henchies and had the usual results (died!) then I walked to Lion's Arch. I had no problems at all until a made a boo boo and all the henchies were dead and my Rez had already been used. I ran kamikaze at some Fire Imps (which were conveniently located next to the rez shrine) and soon every one was rezzed at the shrine. We proceeded to whomp the Imps and stroll into Lion's Arch.

They stop up there, so you can show the Justicar you mad skillz

IIRC you don't have to kill them all, just the dayglo dudes. The mission is over when the cutscene kicks in.

Easiest way was to just kind of follow the Justicar untill he stopped. Then pull the group on the puddles, healp up, and then head accross the swamp to the right (be carefull not to agro patrols otw.) There's a culdesac there with, hopefully, the boss. If not there, buck up and go left. That's a bit harder Xb

What killed the goup that I completed the mission was that damn archer patrol that suddenly pop up and killed me.

Funny thing is that I was trying to shortcut for a mission and got a invitation, so I joined in and we did it on first try.

But true, you can walk there ... just beware of Ettins.

If you take out the front group stay on the far right and charge into the next open area. You need to move fast before the wandering patrol gets close. Take out the healer and then concentrate on the boss because once he is dead you finished the mission. Your instance my not be the same everytime since different boss mobs spawn.
