I actually know who started the trend of selling these shields. She whispered me long ago asking "What do you think people will pay for the shields that are +5 energy? Anything close to what the swords go for?"
My response? "Well, you could try it and see, but it's a collectors item, and people need the armor level of their shields regardless of whether they are fighting or running. The value of the HoD sword is that runners and casters don't need to do any damage with their weapon itself, and extra energy is great, plus the ability to add a pommel. They do need armor, though. If you wanted to give up armor, wouldn't you just use a collector's caster off-hand and get a ton more energy?"
