Guildwars LVL system WACK!
Liloutlaw
the level system in guild wars is wacked out.....im level 6 and was fighting a level 3 that owned me with a level 2 tank with him WTH thats no possible way that they are level 3 and 2
Loviatar
teamwork on their part
welcome to the world where skill counts and level doesnt
they owned you because they had more practice at it
just as you and a friend could own a level 10 who didnt know what he was doing

I was wondering when posts like this would start popping up
Ollaolas
Let me guess, all you did was press the space bar?
Jab
Numbers and skills will beat lvls anyday here. My group of lvl10s, (henchmen) easily destroyed a lvl 19 mob a few days ago.
Kelzar
yep, one time when i was lvl 10 (im a Necro / Elementist) i Pwnd a lvl 14 War/Monk, *sigh* was just embarising how bad he was!
Mister_Sparkle
Thats one of the main things in this game its surprising you didn't know that before you got the game. Thats also why i love this game so much but the problem is im not that good guess i need more practice
Kelzar
good way to practice skills is to get full group of henchmen, and take on HUGE mobs of lower lvls, it realy test ur limits

Devil's Dictionary
Hah! I was wondering if the skill really counts so much in GW...
Here's a living proof .
Actually when I think about it, I *was* owned at level 8 by two level 3 players.

*ouch* that says something... LOL
Guillaume De Sonoma
yeah team work and cordination with always beat brute strength. Easy enough to remember hard to learn.
Loviatar
i think this is hope that they got it right
Rhazwyth
Also, if you are lvl 7 or below try and focus on putting points into one thing rather than spread it.

A higher level character is better though, numerous times I've had lvl 20 players join a group of ~lvl 12. They survive much longer with higher health and they have better equipment, it's actually very annoying to group with level 20 players in this way. Why? Level 20 players often run ahead and just take the brunt because they can, they essentially take the fun out of partying up and beating higher level chars. There are exceptions.

It's great. I Just wish that PvE would reflect the fact that low level mobs can still give a high level player a headache. Nothing's quite so annoying as getting immolated over and over by mobs 7 levels below you and watching your health drop like a rock to -7 degen. If they can do that I should get full xp for beating them and a chance at a drop relevant to their difficulty in my mind.
Deagol
I avoid grouping with characters that are more than a couple of levels above me for that reason. It does reduce the challenge of the game considerably.

You have to keep in mind you do a lot more damage to lower level mobs. It's just a measure to stop people from grinding lower level areas to L20 and then steamrolling through the next 5-6 missions. (Not that this is too hard anyway).
eventhorizen
Yeah fire imp mobs if you are solo hurt. Also grouping for PvE with a high level char isnt quite the same as in PvP, in PvE yeah if they dont totally suck then theyll probably be able to solo the mission/quest in some cases, but in PvP a overly high level char will usually just charge in, get owned and die, or blame his teammates if they lose anyway

You complain about taking the fun out of it, but obviously, you had the lvl 20 join, so the mission / quest would be easier, then you complain about them? that makes sense.
Duin
yea i definately love the idea of the game being skill based rather than level based. it makes the game better because u can last longer in PvP earlier than you normally would.

Well.. what were the 2 classes? was one a healer, and one a tank? Were you going after the tank, instead of the healer?
what is your class?
Dont' come in here, complaining about getting owned by mobs 3 - 4 lvls below you.. This game is not about levels, It is about skill, and skills. Who got the jump on who, and what skills were used...

I'm wondering if you'll still be complaining when you kill a level 28 monster? I know its frustrating if something apparently inferior to you kills you, but how often in RPG's does the main character (i.e. you) fight things above his level to get good experience? And yet it is not 'unbalanced' if you kill that thing is it? Just one way to view it
lol on the level 20 thing... its so true. I went to help a guildmate get from Piken to Nolani today by trekking there... now i just reached 19.8 with my level, and they were level 12. Usually I'm a pretty good (i hope!) team player, but when i discovered just how easily i was smashing through the charr, i have to admit I got caught with the 'run on ahead' bug! I kept noticing myself doing it and would stop and wait for him but oh god... i felt bad for it lol.

"Your death is a sacrafice I am willing to make." I've ditched my henchmen in mid-combat to complete a mission before - they give you a good headstart when you just need to run away! Of course, it was the "Defend the Wall" mission so it was almost tactically sound lol. I ran from a statistically lower power mob which had numerics on its side. Yes, a 15 second lead is better than none.
12-14 lvl 6-8 mobs will own any one lvl 9/10 with 3 lvl 3 henchies any day. However those 3 lvl3 henchies will eat any lvl 8 mob for lunch with or without my help. 6 lower level (-2 to -4) are a hard challenge and will own a group of 4 if you just do the wrong thing. I do see where skill is critical in this game - you have to choose the right attack to manage power and health. Having good equipment is a big bonus, but skill and numerics do go a long way...

I do like this...it proves that their model at least is seeming to work.
I'm an E/Me13, and I can still take a beating from a level 15 or so tank...I just heal at the right times, and again: teamwork...it really helps to have a monk sitting behind you. I was fighting at level 10 in the Ascalon City Arena, and even though our monk was level 5, we worked it out properly so that our monk couldn't be attacked. 17 wins before my computer crashed

I agree

I do agree with the post that was talking about the difficulty of caster mobs... I think that if you level, you should gain at least a slight resistance against spells. Nothing major, I just think it's kinda lame that a level 7 mob can hit you with the full brunt of an attack when you're considerably stronger.
But that's just me, I don't know what I'm talking about.

Not to go Flaming but i,am kind of pissed pff at some of the monster lvlings to i,am a lvl 14 rnger and i have alot of skill in rpgs games and stratge and i still get owned - btw they atk and such large grps its hard to controll them
Popps97
^^^ its called linked mobs.. what are you doing trying to solo, anyway? This game is about teamwork, and skill..
you say, 'i have alot of skill in rpgs games and stratge and i still get owned.'
maybe you dont' have as much skill as you think? its called being arogant...
