Ranger Elite Skills
kc99
So i'm a lvl 16 r/mo with my first char and i just recently got a sig cap and used it twice before i realised two things. 1. They cost money! 2.You really want to be using them to cap elite skills (DUH!)
So after wasting my first two on skills i could have bought anyway i thought i would ask you guys what ranger elites i should definately cap and why/where to get em. Bearing in mind i won't be putting any points into beast mastery just marksmanship and wilderness survival, rest into expertise and some healing.
It would be great if you could tell me your personal favourites or must haves
so i don't waste time and money. Thanks Y'all

My personal favorites are:
Melandru's Arrows: Preperation, for 18 seconds arrows cause bleeding and do additional damage to enchanted targets. -Linked to Wilderness Survival-
QuickShot:Shoot an arrow that fires twice as fast. -Unlinked-
But depending on your personal play style you may find others more useful.
To be honest, cap em all.Ranger is the one class that doesn't really have a "Useless Elite"
Cheers

I really like Punishing Shot, but you'll need a good dose of expertise to sustain a good DPS throughout long battles. Quickshot is pretty fun too but is a nightmare to capture. And Crippling Shot has the coolest animation of any skill in GW, ever, but I never use it.

barrage is one of my favs, again pretty hard to capture. spike trap is a must if u want to go trapping, and oath shot is a good alternative to spike.
all in all tho, it has to be either melandrus arrows (see above), incendiary arows (which set ppl on fire when they hit, and interupt), and punishing shot (loads of extra dmg, instant use, and interupts). Cripple shot is a really nice 1, but only for gvg, pvp, or tombs.
I would say tho, that rangers can have a pretty good build without elites. dual shot, kindle or ignite arrows is a standard pairing.

So after wasting my first two on skills i could have bought anyway Capture Sigs cost half the gold of a normal skill purchase, so you didn't really waste anything, unless you could have gotten the skills through quests.
I like Melandru's Arrows in 4v4 arenas, since most people (particularly Monks and Wa/Mos) run enchantments a lot.
I like Incendiary Arrows because of Fragility in 4v4, and it makes a pretty good total-shutdown skill for about 10 seconds if paired with Tiger's Fury.
I like Ferocious Strike for Pet builds because it's a huge energy engine with good damage to boot.
And I like Greater Conflagration for the vast number of skills it completely screws over, and the way it makes Ranger armor undisputably the best in the game.
But for general purpose outside 4v4 arenas, I usually don't carry an Elite, except maybe Echo since I'm Ra/Mes.

Few personal favourites:
Quickshot(Add. notes: Tough to cap...but useful for spiking, highly spammable)
Barrage(Add. notes: Make sure you kill Markis 1st before killin the jade armour/bows. Great for AoE, highly spammable)
Melandrus Arrows(Add. notes: Easy to cap as the boss is in Thunderhead Keep. Great for killing ppl with enchantments and since its a prep., it works well with everything else except barrage...but you have to get Favourable Winds instead if you want to increase the speed of your arrows, preps. dont stack)

BARRAGE, BARRAGE, BARRAGE
Even when I trap I take barrage. Great fun to fire into a crowd of baddies and see -43 over every one of their heads. Instant recharge and fire again. Only problem is now my left index finger is constantly tapping out barrage during combat.

Yeh, I had to kill Half Perdiction Rock to get it O_o
But it was worth it : )
You also should at least gty Oath Shot, works great if you're trapping to recharge de trapp just after you've set em

Actually, you shoot the arrow twice as fast, it travels at whatever it's normal rate would be, based upon preps (read the wind) and/or spirits (favorable winds)
Saborath Gilgalad
I have a Ranger as my main charecter, and the Elite skills I like are Barrage, Punishing shot, and Markmens Wager. But I plan to capture Poison Arrow, Quick Shot, and Melendru Arrow
Vilaptca
My Ranger uses Punishing Shot always except when trapping.
Sol_Vie
I use Poison Arrow a lot... highly spammable poison is always a nice addition to traps.

Yes quite right.
Let me go ahead and fix my typo.

they're all great. but my faves:
Apply Poison: take along your fave prep and then poison the enemy you're concentrating on just that once
Practised Stance: if you use a prep all the time (like me and ignite arrows ) this is an awesome skill. Makes the prep take 50% less casting time and last something like 40% longer
Punishing Shot: extra damage AND interupt? woohoo!
Spike Trap: if you're trapping you can't beat the dmg/bleed/cripple this trap gives.

Pevil: I believe you mean Poison Arrow instead of Apply Poison. And just a note, Spike Trap doesn't cause bleeding, it knocks down. You described Barbed Trap, one of the non-elite traps.
Every elite has a place, kc99. What do you aim to do with your build? If interruption is your game, Practiced Stance couples with Choking Gas is great, Punishing Shot combines damage with interruption, and Incendiary Arrows is awesome for short term and very damaging interruption. If damage to groups is more your pleasure, Barrage and Spike Trap are good. If you like having a pet with you, Ferocious Strike is a no-brainer. If you're like me and tend to have fun with conditions, Poison Arrow and Crippling Shot are awesome. And then there's the all-around awesomeness of Oath Shot, which is great for getting around abnormally long recharges (like on stances and the like). It's all a matter of what you want to do with your ranger.
