You found it with both +30 and +5 mods?

It's worth about 20k to someone who's going to salvage for mods anyway.

The erngy can be bought for 15k without breaking a sweat.

The wood that you may salvage is worth nothing, except to a parchment monkey.

Who would 20k for the chance to salvage one mod?

"Not I," says the Captain.

+30hp mod is worth much more than +5 energy.

uh-huh...but you only have a 1/3 chance of getting that. You have an equal chance of getting wood (don't get excited). My point is that 20k on the chance to salvage wood isn't worth it. 20k on the chance to salvage the energy isn't worth it. 20k on a 33% chance to salvage the +30 health isn't really worth it, either.

Let's assume that wood is worth 0 and that you can buy the mods for the list price (15k for +5, 50k for +30). Any given salvage has an average value of:

.33(0) + .33(15) + .33 (50).

That works out to right around 20k. The best you could POSSIBLY do by paying 20k for the salvage is to break even by getting the health. Not worth it.

The price would have to be below 20k to be a worthwhile salvage gamble.

You are completely right. However 99% of people won't do the math, that's why you can get away with selling it for 20k.
