Ok

Last night my fellow guildees were taken for a trip to the UW by a solo necro, who let them die and didnt res them.

Why you may ask?

He belived that drops are better in groups (like they could be any worse) so bought some people along, let them die (by aggroing and standing back), and then waiting for them to leave as he wouldnt res, im assuming this is another stupid old (new) wives tale that somebody made up?

anyone else heard or experianced this one?

Don't know how factual it is, but guild mate like to do SF with a few henchies and asks several people to team up and drop out as soon as he zones out of town. Says he gets more drops that way.

Well you can't prove how much drops you would have had if that person didn't leave, so the only way to see if this is true, would be to structurally keep track of the drops for many UW or FoW runs with and without people dropping out, and doing the exact same quests.

Personally, I think it feels like more, since everyone gets relatively more items for themselves if there's less people in a group.

well, they are getting more drops techinicly. They have a higher CHANCE to have a drop assigned to them with fewer players.
