The goal is to rain down arrows (constantly making back energy wit wager), blast backfielders with putrid explostion, and let the minions tank. The consume corpse ability will let me move out of harms way if tanker get to close. Tell me if you think this is viable.

Okay except for the minions. Even a minion master with 16 death doesn't get very powerful minions... Maybe get rid of something for death nova, and fit an IAS skill in there for your elite. I do have to wonder though.. why not go n/r and get more powerful skills, less mess with energy?

If I am gonna play a death slanted Ranger my money is on Virulence. Leave the minions to the necros. I have played something like:

Pin Down
Hunter's Shot
Virulence
Distracting Shot
Plague Touch
Whirling Defense
Consume Corpse
Res Sig

Random Arena, obviously.

Thanks for the comments. How about this build, abandons the minions and goes for area and individual dmg.

try to have precision shot. ur build all revolves on u actually hitting the person with wager on. so if blinded u kinda rendless. and carefull with the preps.
