The Fireslinger (Chris_nin00's #4)
chris_nin00
Hello fellow Ranger-goers!
I now present The Fireslinger!
Profession: Ranger/Elementalist
Name: The Fireslinger
Type: General PvP/PvE
Category: Damage Dealer
Attributes:
Fire Magic: 8
Expertise: 10+3+1
Wilderness Survival: 10+3
Marksmanship: 8+1
Skills Set:
Dual Shot
Quickshot *Elite*/ Greater Conflagration *Elite*
Kindle Arrows
Conjure Flame
Favorable Winds
Whirling Defense/Hunter's Shot
Troll Unguent
Res Sig
Summary: The Fireslinger uses preps, spirits, and enchantments to deal a massive amount of damage in one hit. What are the preps, the spirits, and the enchantments you ask? Kindle arrows, favorable winds, and Conjure flame; in this build that is +36 damage to your attack. Do that with dual shot and you'll be one happy ranger. How do we do this? Here's how
Battle Preperations: Quickshot or Greater Conflagration? Your choice. Want more defense? Greater conflagration. Want more attack opportunities? Quickshot. Choose to fit your playing style. Once you got it down and tweaked your build you are all set.
Battle! Pick a camping spot, a place where you'll most likely stay, then set up Favorable Winds and Greater Conflagration if applicable. When the enemy comes close enough, use Conjure flame and Kindle arrows. Be careful here; any enchantments on you before conjure flame will be lost when you use conjure flame. Now pick a target, preferably a squishy. Here's the attack order.
Dualshot---->Quickshot---->Normal Shot(Hunter's shot)---->Quickshot---->Dualshot---->Quickshot---->etc.
In shorter terms, use quickshot after every normal cast time shot. Remember to use Kindle arrows and Conjure flame when need to apply. Whirling defense when under attack. Troll Unguent to heal. Res sig when someones dead. Moving on.
PvE! Yes, a PvE section. Not much to it though. You don't need to bring whirling defense or troll if you have a monk. Make sure there are no monsters that have a defense bonus against fire; bring winter if so. Just set up camp and play.
Notes & Concerns: This build is very cool to do. It's nice to imagine the look on the opponents face when they see big numbers flash over their characters. Is this build right for you? Lets take a look at the pros and cons
Pros
-Substantial Damage.
-Easy to set up and play
-The build is flexible and can be worked around easily
-Relies on many factors. If your opponent takes out favorable winds, you are still in business.
-Great Conflagration=Great Defense
-Great in PvE and PvP
Cons
-Not good against other rangers. Rangers have better defense against elemental attacks.
-Energy denials will eat you alive, like spirit shackles *sighs*. This build needs energy all the time.
I know you like this build. Now go out and have some fun with it. Good luck.
See you on the battlefield

TF is good u just need 3 + 1 minor to make it for 7 secs long. and u dont need conflag a lot quick shot is much better. the build revolves around dual shot so dont forget. u dont need hunters shot a lot. whirling is much better cause u need def. and since this is for pve/pvp i say flatbow will do the trick.

Is this build easy to use for a newcomer to gw?
Murder In China
I'm going to try this
Fenix Stone
This seems pretty good. I'm gonna try this out and leave comments later.

ok ive ben tryin to make a good spike ranger but i found a use for poison arrow more then quick shot. poison arrow does dmg plus it applies health regeneration and if ur tryin to make a spike ranger the highest markmenship that a person needs is around be around 9 if they have a decent bow
if any sugestions on how to make this better do tell
beast mastery 6+1
expertise 11+2 mask and rune
wilderness 10+1
marksmenship 8+1
res sig, troll, kindle arrow, tigers fury, poison arrow, dual shot, called shot, and savage shot

Didn't this used to be a premade? I'm almost positive it either was or still is...
LaserLight
Not...really...they don't have any actual Bow Rangers in the premades list. I think the only Ranger primary they have is the IVEX Trapper.
chris_nin00
I have revamped this whole build!
It's worth taking a look...
Added Pro's and cons, Battle preperations and Battle, PvE section, more thorough summary.
Enjoy the new revamped build. It now has the Seal of Quality with it too

No if you remember they used to have a premade firesligner build very very similar to this one. They have since removed it from the premade optional builds though.

This was definately a premade, i remember using it. It was called flameslinger even. heh.

And it's here for you ranger goers in a more in-depth form.
This build works better and is more energy efficient. It also relies more heavily on quickshot than greater conflagration. It's more energy efficient and doesn't rely on only greater conflagration to make this work.
This build, with the Chris_nin00 quality seal, is easier to run for you ranger goers than the premade build .
Enjoy and read on

There is a guide by Unienuale on runes that you can check out at the community works section.
All those +1s and +3s you see are runes... but Expertise is a bit different as you can see.
In the guide it states that runes don't stack, but hats and runes do. In this case we are using a Superior Rune of Expertise and an Expertise hat, which adds +1 attribute point. Get it?
Maybe this is easier to understand,
Fire Magic: 8(Base Attribute)
Expertise: 10(Base Attribute) + 1 (Expertise mask/hat) + 3 (superior rune of expertise.
Wilderness Survival: 10(Base Attribute) +3(Superior rune of wilderness survival)
Marksmanship: 8(Base Attribute) + 1 (minor rune of Marksmanship)
You can only have one hat and runes of the same attributes don't stack.
Do you get it now? Good
And quickshot time,
You'll never ask a question like this because I have given you the power...
I bookmark it.

makes sence now thx! see u in GW

a good build for damage output, however yesterday i was dissapointed with dual shot, didnt seem to do much, but nontheless this build can kick the crap out of spellcasters (except monks of course, damn them!)
m2aguiar
I use a similar build to this and i love it. I can kill most soft targets pretty fast. I think most a suprised to see the amount of damage each hit. Here it is:
Attributes:
Marksmanship: 12
Wilderness Survival: 11
Expertise: 11
Fire Magic: 8
Skills:
Dual Shot
Savage Shot
Quickshot
Conjure Flame
Kindle Arrows
Whirling Defense
Troll Ungent
Resurection Signet
Sometimes i will switch out somthing to put in Favouralbe winds for the extra damage but either will work.
It is fairly easy to play, dual shot is the primary as everyone says. Savage shot for a quick ineterupt when they try to heal. And the rest are pretty obvious. Try it out if you like its works great for me

These "re-vamps" u mentioned aren't that great. In fact this build is an "oldy+goldy". Credit for this build should not be put because there may have been a creater but SOOOO many ppl use this build its not even that unique anymore. In fact i use nearly the same build but with a "shocking" difference. (plz take the hint). Try this. main skills: Conjure Lightning Barrage and Chain Lightning with boulderbeards SHORT bow (the rest of the skills depend on what u wanna do). its incredible seeing as chain lightning acts as a more powerful barrage and targets 3 foes. I hope u realize that this build pretty similar to your "re-vamped" build but using barrage and lightning.
EDIT: disregard my pun above. its really corny.

I'd like to restate, that credit does go to me, not for being creator, but putting this build together with tips and strategies, in a comprehendable one post thread. Many variations of this build exist. The one posted here is my favorite.
If I were to change this build a bit now, I definitely would. Problem is, I haven't pvped in months. So me talking about the current metagame would be like me telling lies. And I don't want to do that.
The reason why Conjure Flame is a more popular choice than Conjure Lightning, is because Kindle Arrows meshes well with conjure flame. No Fire bow string required, unlike Conjure lightning which takes up the bow string.
Kindle Arrows
-Changes Bow Damage to Fire which puts Conjure Flame into effect.
-Adds a good amount of Damage
-Basis of the build. Chains all the stackings together.
Adding Barrage and Lightning totally ruins the build and it's foundation. If Kindle Arrows is used in the build, Conjure Lightning would become null since Kindle Arrows turns your bow damage into fire. Conjure lightning and Kindle Arrows clash(Fashion anyone )
I don't want to talk about Barrage. What kind of groups clump together?
And by the way Elvin Ranger,
I love corny puns. So I will not disregard the pun above

mkay dont disregard pun. I mustve missed the part about PvP. In pvp situations i would probably use ur build. I also dint mention using conjure lightning with kindle arrows. only lightning. Because lightning damage has armor penetration by itself and is combined with a short bow it is a fast acting barrage weapon. i pretty sure lightning damage has base AP of 25%. And im kool with u taking credit for POSTING the build and guide of how to use it. Creating it however was sumthing 1 person or many ppl have done a while ago. I used my lightning damage and barrage for farming. (usually ettins) until i found that trapping them was easier. As for my choise of lightning and not fire or water is because of the many low energy no exhaustion with high hitting power (hmm i would consider it to be a weapon of mass destruction seeing as this build is used for multiple targets lol). And when not fighting groups u could bring read the wind for example and duel shot and a move like lightning for single targets. 1 flaw to ur extremely "hot" build (hehe more corny puns) is that there is alot more battle preperation than mine. To do good damage (or even any at all) u would need to keep kindle arrows up at all time. Which is a pain in pvp if u get interupted. O and BTW, the comment about not pvping for about a month, i am suffering a loss of my comp to a virus. im using old comp that GW doesnt work on . so i cant play anything on GW. man im soo bored...so ill just continue to post stuff to keep in the GW groove.
EDIT: by the way, alot of balenced groups use wards, making them clump together.

Please, this build was created a long time ago. You taking credit for any part of the build or description would be like someone taking credit for a common IWAY build. Its common knowledge, so its not "your" build.
DarkZeal
wasn't this build a premade templet a while ago..?
Iskrah
He wrote it 4 months ago and it's not good enough to deserve any bragging rights anyway, even for PvE. Give him a break, he took the time to formulate the idea clearly.

Hey i have a quick q--
Does Read the Wind Stack with the conjure line?

THx RtW doesn't stack with Kindle....but it does stack with conjure x. You'd just have to be sure to use the elemental string of choice.

Nehsher TalonStrike
I have always been more partial to ignite arrow then kindle arrow...
Sure with kindle you get a bit more damage but with ignite you get to spread the love. An added bonus is if you miss your target he will still recieve fire dmg as the target is still in the AoE. with kindle if you miss you miss. Remember 2 misses dont make a hit chris_nin00
It's been a year since I posted this build on here...
Let's take a look at the premade Fireslinger that Anet took out. The Flame Slinger uses her Ranger's Expertise to reduce the Energy cost of attacks while relying on her Elementalist skills to deal additional damage with every attack. Combining the durability of a Ranger with the damage-adding capabilitiy of the Elementalist makes this hero a massive damage-dealer. Tips -Cast Greater Conflagration and Conjure Flame, then follow up with repeated usage of Power Shot, and Dual Shot. (Note: Conjure Flame will not work unless you use Greater Conflagration first to deal some fire damage.) -If you are low on Energy and someone near you is doing Elemental damage, or if you need to escape in a hurry, cast Storm Chaser. -Additionally, if you Health gets low, cast Storm Chaser, then run away and use Troll Unguent on yourself. Attributes Skills Expertise {P} 8 Marksmanship 10 Wilderness Survival 8 Fire Magic 10 Points Spent 196 Points Unspent 4 Greater Conflagration {E} Power Shot Dual Shot Pin Down Kindle Arrows Conjure Flame Storm Chaser Troll Unguent Just used the build today, and it still works well. Lots of compliments... lots of questions on what this build was... See ya'll around. |
