I also have problems such as this eventhough, like you, all my drivers and settings are up to date. The "hitchings" that I experience are my character appearing to have stopped running but is actually still running, as in he is casting a spell that takes a considerable length of time but fails due to him not stopping. My comp specs:
Amd Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0Ghz
1 GB RAM
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB
It should be just fine for me, yet instances of stuttering occur more than I would like them too. Doom3 performs as efficiently for me as GW, and that is not saying much.

Yeah, I came searching for this exact thing. I have the same problem. Is almost as though the game is visually in limbo though everything is going on as per normal.

My guess is it's a 'to be ironed out' kind of issue. One that belongs to all manner of setups and configurations.

At least you are still attacking etc and not paused and getting killed like some MMOs.. *cough*

But yeah, it's a tad annoying.

System = pretty high end.

are you possibly refering to the so called rubber banding as well?

your character will freeze for a moment in mid stride than almost teleport to a nearby spot than continue on normally?

if that is part of it it is the client and server reporting 2 different things than putting you where they both wind up agreeing you should be

Is this the problem you are referring to:

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=5444

If so...I am starting to see ALOT of people with this problem across multiple forums. It really has nothing to do with computer specs in my opinion. I installed GW on my girlfriends computers which is as follows:

P4 2.8 HT (800 FSB)
1 gig DDR400 ram
GeForce 6800 GT 256mb (OC'd to 400/1100)

And still get the hitching on that computer even with graphical settings put at minimum (and back up to maximum for that matter).

I didnt get this hitching during beta. I didnt NOTICE it during the first few days of live. Just noticed it recently pop up.

I am getting this, too. Looks like server lag to me. My system specs are strong, and my cable connection is testing out consistently great, but I can't even stand to play the game with the character constantly stopping and then restarting halfway across the map.

I'm rubberbanding more of late as well.

thats odd as i may not rubberband more than once or twice an hour
no enough to spoil fun and seldom enough so i still go oops when i see it

remember it is still very early and it has gone better so far than many other launches

i see it getting worse as more people get it than improving as things are smoothed out

give them time and i think most of us will be very happy

I can understand about why it is rubberbanding but it is really annoying when you are fighting and using a spell, then it becomes interrupted by your teleporting. This is something that would be a small nuissance with a Warrior, but on an Elementalist/Monk, this is deadly. Often, I come very close to having to restart a quest over due to me rubberbanding into the spellcast mob that I am trying to use an AoE on.

Wow thanks for all the replies.. I love this game tons, but as I can see I am not the only one having this issue.. It really drives me bonkers!! I guess if any of us find a solution lets post it in here.. I have found a fwe threads about same issue... and it seems to be a growing topic. I too can run games like doom 3 etc an MAXed and no lag hitching at all.. I h ave tried multiple drivers with no luck...

BOO URNS!!

Well Lets all stick together on this one and find a solution maybe they will release a ptach to fix this.. especially were it did not happen in the beta for a few people..

LOL...I was happy to see other people with the problem as well (not happy they were having problems..just that I wasnt alone is all).

If I figure out the solution or read it somewhere, this will be the first place I post!

You could try these drivers http://www.omegadrivers.net/ . I have had the same problem for the past few days using an ATI 9800pro and these divers seemed to have fixed the problem.

Ok well for me it's getting worse and worse. I updated to the latest omegas and all.

Now the rubberbanding is so extreme I cannot group with anyone and am pretty much forced to hench my way through missions.
I am a healer, so there is no way I can keep anyone alive.

This is by far the coolest game I've played in a long time, but as it is now, sadly, it's unplayable for me..

Any suggestions?

Oh:
3400+64bit
xt800 plat
1.5gig
ASDL connection
etc

I wonder if this game enables "triple buffering" by default? If it doesnt that would explain alot of the sudden dips in fps. I noticed that Guild Wars enables V-sync by default and if you dont use Triple Buffering along with v-sync basically if you are not rendering frames at your monitors refresh rate the fps will cut in half until it can render the scene at full fps again. So could some staff member post if Triple buffering could be added to the game options?

I got killed three times last night due to lag. I was fighting monsters that required special skills, either weapon or healing skills, for me to overcome. The game froze, a few battle sounds leaked through over the next several seconds, and then, when the screen unfroze, I was back at the respawn point. Very aggravating. Last time, I was lost somewhere in the catacombs and probably couldn't have found my way back from the respawn, so I just signed out and went to bed.

got the same problem, pretty annoying, but doesn't make my game unplayable

vid 9800 pro 256mb

ive noticed it happens if i get messages like the ones where 'guild X won a battle from Europe or whatever', it seems like the games interrupts during those messages.

but even when there are no messages i get these 'shocks' in the game

Yep I got the same thing here X800XT Cats5.4 doesnt really bother me much but i do notice the hitch. Like you said it is while running out in the wild like it is loading a new part of the map or somenthing. Other than that it runs silky smooth.

Quick update....

Well, just upgraded my video card to a GeForce 6800. Used Driver Cleaner to uninstall old drivers and install Forceware 71.89 (the newest drivers off Nvidia's site)....

GW runs silks smooth. BUT....still have the exact same hitching.

So doesnt appear to have anything to do with video card or drivers.

Yeah, I've tried running the graphics options down to rock bottom for best performance, and it didn't make a bit of difference. I also tweaked the performance option on the card itself down without any impact. I had some decent playing time with intermittent hitching/rubberbanding/lag until about 5pm Eastern, and it got progressively worse until about 6:30pm Eastern, with it seizing up about every 2-3 steps and then moving again 5-10 seconds later.

I've got a new video card coming in about a week, but I don't expect it to make these symptoms disappear.

I also checked my firewall (BlackIce), and it's not alerting on anything or blocking anything associated with GW. Norton is my antivirus. I have a Linksys router that blocks most hostile traffic, and I haven't seen anyone complain about problems specifically with that brand of router and GW at this point.

Windows & all NVIDIA drivers are up to date. I'm not sure what else to check on my end, and I'm not convinced that the problems not on server side. You can tell in the GW cities that other people are getting some lag, because the chat conversations get out of sequence (like somebody laughing to something you said two or three sentences ago or taking forever to respond). One guy, all he said was, "STUPID COMPUTER!" Ah, can't we all relate to that...

I had been using a Radeon 8500 because my 9800 died a few weeks back.. Was experiencing the exact same thing.. P4 3.0e, 1 gig of pc3200 and now I've got my Radeon 9800 pro 256mb back.. And it still happens

We should really compile a list of systems being affected and send the data to the devs.

This "fan site" is fully copyrighted by ArenaNet, so I'm sure the devs are already aware. They can post for more info if they want it.
