Skills like inferno, frozen burst, flame burst, crystal wave, etc. cause foes/henchies to flee? Just wondering, because when I was fighting hydras in the Desert the henchies would spontaneously combust, especially after tons of dp.

Yes, that was a change made to monster/henchmen AI added in the Nov 10 game update.

Mmmhmm...ok, thanks. I knew the duration lasting aoes like meteor shower/firestorm do, but I wasn't sure about skills like frozen burst, flameburst etc. Because the henchies never seem to run from them after they get infernoed/pheonixed.

I've noticed this on the 'quicker' AoE. I think it has something to do with the timing of the damage you are doing to them. If you hit them soon after, they will stick around to defend themselves or if the AoE is a one-shot damage to an area, they might register it as a single hit and not an AoE. I could be wrong as I really haven't tested anything. Just what I've observed....

The really annoying thing to me, a warrior primary, is the constant running. Especially since they will most likely run towards another group and cause me to aggro them if I'm not careful. I can't complain too much though. It's more realistic IMO.

I only wish more people were intelligent enough to realize this.

I believe the way it's set up is that the ai will flee after the second instance of damage, so they might not flee from a one shot damage spell.

for example, I use mark of pain, and they won't take off until after the second whack.

I'd be interested in how the ai determines it's aoe.
